Charlie opened her eyes to find Alastor gently playing with her long hair. "It's hard to believe someone like me, a scoundrel at best became so lucky. This heart was chipped and broken and bruised, it was rejected and lied to and used. But now it heals and beats the tune, of a love song I only share with you." Tears pricked her eyes at the beauty in his voice.
"I know we had our rough patches in life, and some things could never be cured by time," Charlie sang louder. "And others say we're headed for failure, that this road leads to a cliff hanger. What they don't know and never will, is that we would climb any hill." Alastor was sitting next to her now, never breaking their gaze. "They said to take caution and never believe the lies, but I listen carefully to the song of Paradise."
The two sat in silence, still looking into each other's eyes. Slowly, Charlie pulled Alastor closer to her and kissed him. Alastor melted in, rubbing her back with a hand. Charlie heard the beating of his heart intensify as it did earlier in the day. She imagined hers sounded the same.
Breaking the kiss, Alastor hugged her tightly. "Thank you," He whispered. "Thank you so much. For loving me, for caring about me." Charlie held him as well, smiling softly. "It's not hard to love you. You're amazing." She felt a rumble in her stomach, reminding her of her hunger.
"Now, let's get something to eat. I'm starving!" Charlie pulled away from the hug. Looking up, she noticed the deer demon's ears had flattened. "Can I..." She pointed to them, awaiting his response. "Of course." Charlie gently rubbed the fur, they were smooth and fuzzy. "Wow, these are really soft." Alastor nodded slightly.
When she was done, Charlie let them flop down once more. "Okay. NOW we need to eat." Alastor chuckled softly, his ears rose up as his mood lightened. "Yes, that is a great idea. How about I make...stuffed peppers?" Charlie squealed in excitement. "I love stuffed peppers! My mom used to make them for me when I was little!"
The two scrambled out of the bed and walked down the several flights of stairs. It had always annoyed Charlie with how steep and narrow and LONG the staircases were, but now she was grateful for them as it meant they had a bit more time together.
Alastor had begun telling her a story from when he was alive in New Orleans, Louisiana.
