“I’m—” Hindi niya naituloy ang sasabihin niya nang biglang nagsalita si Miss Elena.

“Wala ba kayong mga trabahong gagawin?” Her voice slightly raised but you can feel her tense up.

Now, she realized her job and what she should have done during the commotion. Parade Perez Line has a clean reputation and excellent image, Elena Perez is the heart of the company but her being like this could be the downfall the company. I already verified the information in my memory and everything related to work and everything matches except Elena Perez’s current state and my false memory claiming to be her.

The girl in front of me held my hand and pulled me to the elevator to the fourth floor. Tinititigan ko lang siya. Her small round-shaped face, thin nose bridge, plumped lip line, and curly lob complete with curly bangs dark brown hair makes her look like a kid but she does have an attractive dark brown hooded eye. Sino ba ’tong babaeng napaka overly friendly l?

“Okay look. This is very awkward.” I pulled my hand away and crossed arms. “I have no idea who you are and you are pulling me to somewhere in which I also do not know where.”

I complained before distancing myself from her when we entered the elevator. I stared at her once again; she is wearing a short gray turtleneck dress. Our height match except that she’s wearing silver knee-high pencil heel boots and I’m just wearing flats making her taller.

“Best friend mo ako, May.”

She’s Yummie? The one who used to visit me regularly at the hospital?

And come to think of it, I wonder why she suddenly stopped visiting me, it’s weird.

Wait, what am I getting suspicious of again?

It feels like a habit to be suspicious of everyone’s actions. Must be because of this amnesia thing. I let out an exasperated sigh, I’m just starting my day but I’m already sighing.

“I’m sorry that I do not—” I was interrupted when she gave me tight hug.

I unconsciously raised both of my hands. I know she told me she is my best friend but it feels weird for a stranger to the “me” now suddenly give me a hug. I have no memory of her.

“Tinawagan ako ng doctor mo, May. Alam ko na ang sitwasyon mo. ’Wag kang mag-alala, tutulungan kitang makaalala,” she assured me with a smile.

Why do they always assume that I want my memory back? If I have subconsciously rewritten my memory doesn’t that mean that I don’t want to remember my past?

I want to start anew, let the past stay in past.

I will be my own version of the new May Gonzales. I was lost in thought when the elevator door opened. Yummie pulled my wrist and excitedly guided me to a desk full of pictures and pens.

“Dito ang stall mo, May. At doon naman ’yong sa akin sa likuran mo. Three stalls from here,” Yummie instructed pointing at a desk not far away from me.

I grabbed one of the picture frames on my desk, I intently stared at it. It’s a picture of me and Sebastian happily smiling. I touched Sebastian’s face in the picture. I look so happy here, like genuinely in love but it’s weird. I still don’t feel anything... just guilt.

I shook away the thought of Sebastian. I faced Yummie and pointed to the pens inside a little pink basket on the left part of my table.

“Akin ba lahat ng ’to?”

She nodded her head and played with her curly hair with her finger. “Oo, collections mo ’yang lahat. Ewan ko din sa ’yo at sa dinami dami ng pwede mo ikolekta mga ballpen pa. Oo nga pala, mamaya na tayo mag-usap, May at baka mapagalitan na naman tayo. Kung may mga tanong ka, mamaya ko lang sasagutin.”

“Oh, okay.” I sighed.

Piece o' cake.

Napadako ang mata ko sa orasan. Oh, it’s already five. Hindi ko namalayan na out na pala. I settled the unfinished documents on top of my table and fixed my things.

“Oh, andyan ka pala,” she said, smiling. “Wait lang ah, aayusin ko lang ’tong mga papers dito tapos aalis na tayo.”

I impatiently took a glimpse at my watch. I hate waiting and wasting my time. Why are they so unproductive? I waited for around 10 more minutes before I finally snapped.

“Can you please hurry? I have appointments after here,” I impatiently asked.

Yummie just gave a weird look then shrugged her shoulder and stood up. She grabbed her black sling bag and embraced my arms. She really acts like a kid.

“Tara na! Moon Cafe muna tayo ha, like the old times!” Yummie happily requested and pulled me.

What am I? A luggage bag she conveniently pulls around? Why can’t she act like her age?

“Please stop pulling me around, Yummie. I can walk on my own.” I hissed.

The elevator stopped by the second floor and with surprised eyes, Miss Elena stared at me and Yummie. I raised my brows when she stood motionless.

“Are you going in? You’re not paying us for overtime here in an elevator.” I clicked my tongue in irritation.

I felt irritated with each minute I’m wasting here and also seeing Elena Perez. She’s really something else and I just feel pathetic thinking that I erased my memory and claimed to be her. Pathetic. She blinked twice before mouthing sorry and going in.

“Bakit mo naman sinabihan ng ganoon si Miss Elena?” Yummie whispered nervously.

I decided to ignore her. I can feel Elena and Yummie feeling awkward. Why is Elena even in the public elevator when she has her own exclusive lift for her? We heard Elena coughed twice before calling out Yummie’s name.

“Bakit po Miss?” Yummie politely answered.

She hesitantly look at us and said, “P’wede ba akong magpabili ng Vanilla Frappe sa Moon Cafe? Uuwi ka na ba?”

We are not her personal assistant for her to order us around buying her whims. I let out a loud sigh which made the two of them look at me.

“With all due respect, Miss Elena but it’s the end of our shift at uuwi na kami. Marami ka namang p’wedeng utusang iba, ’di ba? Aside from that hindi kasama sa kontratang pinirmahan namin na we need to bow down to your every whim when you can do it on your own. This is not part of our job,” I blatantly blurted out.

She avoided her gaze and stepped back which annoyed me more. She really looks pathetic. Not the Elena Perez I expected. I felt Yummie pinched my side and glared at me.

“Pasensya na po kayo kay May, Miss Elena pero huwag po kayo mag-alala bibilhan ko po—‘

Now, it’s my turn to pull you away here. Yummie had a hard time matching my fast-paced walk. I stopped when I heard her pant and tried pulling herself away.

"May, baka magalit si Miss Elena! Ano ka ba? Bakit ganoon ka sa kanya kanina? Alam kong may amnesia ka kaya ipapaalala ko lang sa ’yo, boss lang naman natin ’yong tinarayan mo. Ikaw lang ata ang may lakas ng loob tarayan ang amo—”

“Ang sakit mo sa tainga,” pagputol ko sa kanya.

Yummie has her arms crossed while nagging at me. Okay, fine. I know it’s my fault to be giving our boss an attitude but I can’t help but be annoyed at her. And my ego won’t let me admit it, not in front of this stranger posing as my friend.

If Elena Perez terminates me because of something like that then so be it.

“Let her be. Masyado siyang inutil.” I irked before entering the gloomy looking cafe.
