¨I'm glad we're doing this. It's a great opportunity for us to get to know each other better.¨ Blaine said as he walked into Kurt's room. It was very tastefully decorated with pale walls but pops of color in other places. An area rug covered the cold wooden floor. Pictures of family framed the walls. Then Blaine went and sat down in a lounge chair in the corner of the room. ¨Oh yeah here's the sheet music.¨ He handed Kurt the paper.
¨Thank you. And you made a tenor and countertenor piece. That's very nice of you.¨ Kurt said awkwardly. Kurt sat on the edge of his bed, hands in his lap. ¨Maybe we should get to know each other better before we sing. What are some of your interest?¨
"Well, I like to sing. I have an extensive bow tie collection. I'm a big fan of Disney. I especially love musical theatre. My favorite show is Little Shop of Horrors." Blaine answered. "What are 3 things on your bucket list?"
Kurt thought about that for a second. "Well, I would love to perform on Broadway. Get married, and have kids."
Blaine nodded, then said, "Those are great things to want to accomplish in life, but I kinda meant more you know adventurous things. Like if you could do anything right now, what would it be?"
"Well, I would start with putting on a sweatshirt. It's freezing in here." Kurt said, heading towards his closet. He grabbed a plain blue sweatshirt (gasp), pulled it on, and kept talking to Blaine. "I don't know, I'm not a very adventurous person. I mean if I had to choose something right now, I guess I would go hiking? Sing somewhere? But not both at the same time. I know those things might seem boring but like I said, I'm not a very adventurous person."
Blaine stood up. He offered Kurt his hand and pulled him up off the bed. "Hiking you said? That sounds fun. And what better way to get to know each other than to go walking through the woods! And don't worry about the curfew. We are being adventurous tonight!" Blaine ran down the stairs, dragging Kurt behind him.
"What are you kids doing? Going somewhere? Dinner's starting soon!" Burt said. "I made burgers! And who's this? Boyfriend?"
"Dad, this is my friend Blaine. We're just friends. And we're going hiking. Is that okay?" Kurt asked. Burt looked confused.
"Hiking? That doesn't seem like your thing." Burt said. Kurt shrugged and pulled on some shoes.
"Have fun sweetheart! Be safe!" Carole said from the kitchen. Kurt and Blaine flew out the door, and hopped in Kurt's Navigator. Kurt went to sit in the driver's seat, but was stopped by Blaine.
"I'll drive. Trust me, I know a great place. You'll love it!" Blaine claimed. He put the car in drive. This was followed by an uncomfortable silence. "We haven't really hung out before, have we?"
"I guess not." Kurt answered. They drove for about half an hour until reaching a forest. They parked on a little dirt parking lot and got out of the car and looked around. There was a small ice cream shop called the Love Shack, why the name Kurt had no idea. A few picnic tables were on the lawn, and a unisex bathroom sat in the middle of the outdoor space. And in the very back was some woods. Kurt could spot a clearing further in. "This place is cute and rustic." He said.
"I used to come here when I was younger with my brother. He lives in LA now." Blaine stated. "I've always loved it here." Blaine did look really happy as they started to make their way past the picnic tables. He had this nostalgic look on his face. "Let's go on Trail 16. There's something really beautiful at the end." Kurt nodded, and Blaine pointed to a path about 15 feet away from them. They started to head into the woods, and as they entered in immediately got dark. Not dark enough to have to pull out a flashlight, but still too dark to see 40 feet ahead of you.
They walked for about 15 minutes before seeing a large pond and hill up ahead of them. Blaine started to look giddy and grabbed Kurt by the hand and started running with him. They finally got to the clearing.
¨Ta-da!¨ Blaine exclaimed. He started to run up the hill, then tripped, then started to fall down the hill, and rolled past Kurt. It looked like it hurt, but Blaine looked like he was having the time of his life. Once he reached the foot of the hill, he stood up and walked over to Kurt. ¨I know it doesn't look like much, but I don't know, this place has a special place in my heart.¨
Kurt had to admit it was beautiful out here. He was usually an indoor person, but he did like the little clearing. It was so quiet and peaceful. Kurt walked to the top of the hill, and sat down. Blaine ran up to Kurt and sat down next to him. ¨This place is nice. I see why you like it so much.¨
¨Good memories I guess.¨ Blaine smiled. Then he laid down on the grass and looked up to the sky. The sun was setting, filling the sky with shades of orange, red and even some purple. Everything seemed perfect. They stayed in a comfortable silence for a few more minutes, until Kurt spoke up.
¨We should get going soon.¨ He said. Blaine looked a little disappointed but reluctantly stood up. ¨Let's race down the hill. Starting...... NOW!¨ Kurt said and immediately started sailing down the hill. Everything was going well until he lost his footing. As he started tumbling down the hill he had a few choices. Crash into a tree, a rock, or the pond. Already mourning his outfit, Kurt did his best to direct himself to the body of water.
SPLASH!
Kurt came up to see Blaine looking very concerned, then laughing when he saw that Kurt was okay. ¨I'm sorry, I shouldn't be laughing. But, it was a little funny. Do you need help out?¨ Blaine offered his hand out to Kurt, who took it......then dragged him into the pond. ¨Hey!" Now it was Kurt's turn to laugh. Then Blaine splashed him with water. Kurt narrowed his eyes at Blaine, then started to splash him. This continued for several more minutes. Finally they decided on a truce and climbed out of the water.
Because it had gotten darker outside, which made it almost impossible to see in the woods. And since for some stupid reason they had left their phones in the car, they didn't have a source of light. Blaine knew the trail by heart, so Kurt clung to him until they saw the faded pink lights of the Love Shack. They decided to stop at the ice cream shop. Kurt ordered a swirl of strawberry and vanilla, and Blaine ordered cookie dough with hot fudge and sprinkles and a cherry on top. They decided to go sit on the picnic bench closest to Kurt's car.
¨Thank you for taking me here. It's not what I'm used to, but I like it.¨ Kurt smiled. Blaine returned the smile.
¨My pleasure. I'm glad you liked it. It's getting really dark though, we should get going.¨ Blaine stood up and he and Kurt walked back to the car. Blaine hopped into the driver's seat, and Kurt climbed into the passenger seat. They sang along to the radio, eventually arriving at Kurt's house. They both got out of the car and Blaine walked Kurt to his door.
¨See you tomorrow! Bye Kurt!¨ Blaine said and then jogged over to his own car, gave a final wave, and drove off. As Blaine's car sped off, Kurt had a realization that confused him. He liked Blaine, but not just as a friend.
Well crap. Kurt thought. I have feelings for Blaine Anderson.
