David Karofsky was gay.
Nobody at school knows this. And nobody will, until December 18th when one Kurt Hummel found out in an unfortunate way. It wasn't a beautiful coming out story and they weren't friends, not even a little bit. As you know, Dave was a bully. Nobody pitied him. This information is not relevant, yet. It will of course, be important later.
"Hey homo, nice blouse!" He shouted to Kurt. David hated Kurt. He hated how he sounded. How he dressed. How he had a boyfriend. A boyfriend that wasn't him.
"Surprised that word is in you vocabulary. Congrats, you're on track to pass 4th grade." Kurt spat back. Karofsky slammed into the lockers. He deserves this. Dave thought. He's such a girl. He's practically begging for this. Kurt didn't cry about this and instead looked him in the eyes, not breaking eye contact. Dave however notice that Kurt seemed upset and scared and decided to use this to his advantage.
"What are you gonna do Hummel? Cry for your f*ggot boyfriend?" He teased.
"Going to." Kurt corrected. Dave glared at him. "The correct way to say that would be, 'what are you going to do Hummel? Cry for your boyfriend?' Maybe you aren't on track to pass 4th grade." Dave pushed him away and ran down the hallway. Once Kurt saw that Karofsky had left, he ran to the next open classroom. He felt like he couldn't breathe. The world felt like it was shrinking and dimming around him. Kurt hadn't even noticed the tears because he was too busy struggling to breathe.
"Lady Hummel?" A voice from the doorway. Shoot. He had forgotten to shut the door. Brittany and Santana were standing in the classroom, and rushed over to him. "Holy shit, what should I do?" Santana said. Brittany however, was much more helpful.
"Sweet unicorn. You're going to be okay." Brittany wrapped her arms around Kurt, pulling him into a tight hug. "Now think about things that make you happy. Make a list in your head." Kurt started to compile a list in his head.
My dad
Carole
Finn
Blaine
Glee Club
Singing
As Kurt continued added to the list, he started to calm down more. After a few minutes, Brittany let go of him. "Are you okay Kurt?" Satan-Santana asked. This was the nicest he's ever seen Santana be that's not Brittany. "Who did this because I will go all Lima Heights on their sorry asses!" Kurt shook his head. "Okay, but the next time this happens, CALL ME! Please Kurt, even if we don't show it enough we care about you." He nodded.
"Sorry, I'll go. Give you some alone time." Kurt responded. Brittany shook her head.
"No unicorn, stay with us. We can all skip class together!" Brittany smiled. "It will be so much fun!" Santana looked away. "Oh sorry never mind Kurt. San and I want to get our sweet lady kisses on, and I don't think you want to see that." And she was right. If he wanted to watch two girls make out, he would just go to Puck's search history.
"Okay, see you guys later." Kurt walked to the door frame. Then he stopped, and turned to face them. "Really though, thank you guys so much. But please don't tell anyone about this."
Santana shrugged. "Sure, just as long as you don't tell Mr. Walker what we're about to do on his desk." After that Kurt got out of the classroom as quickly as he could.
