Chapter Six

The small piece of freedom I had been given was liberating, although a lot of the corridors seemed to bleed into one mass of black. I was glad to be able to walk the ship it was so freeing and allowed me to train the force into feeling peoples emotions. I saw into the minds of many of the workers, I enjoyed that less as often they weren't happy, and their feelings saddened me.

My piece of quiet came to an end when I received a message that I was to report to the interrogation bays. To my surprise it was Kylo who'd asked for me to come down, I didn't even know he was back yet.

On entering the room, I could see Kylo leaning over a prisoner, a brown-haired woman who was filthy.

"You wanted to see me?" I asked.

"I want you to rip into her mind. She's resisting me" He growled. "Stand here and feel her mind. She holds a map to Luke Skywalker" Kylo explained "I need it."

I walked over and raised my hand above her head and I started to dig inside her head, but I couldn't find any map. The prisoner was resisting me, but I could feel that she had been weakened by Kylo's attempts.

"I can't see anything." I breathed.

"Again." He ordered.

I tried again, digging as hard as I could to find the map, but it was pointless. She was too determined that I wasn't going to see it. Instead I saw her life in the desert, starving and alone waiting for her family to come back. What a sad life she'd led before.

"She's hiding it" I struggled with the effort.

"Keep going" He pushed. "They're never coming back, your parents. They are gone now poor Rey, all alone but with your power you could join us. You would be such an important member of the first order"

My mind started to race with thoughts of the scavenger dressed in all black, a double ended light sabre. Was this a vision? Or was she considering his offer? I shook it from my head.

"Kylo I can't, it's just not there" I breathed.

"It is." He hissed through his teeth.

"Then she's hiding it well."

"Disappointing" He murmured. "Leave now"

I could feel my own disappointment searing as I left, I don't know why I cared that I'd failed. It was his mission set by Snoke it was nothing to do with me and yet I felt sad that I'd failed him. I don't know why I did, but it was there. I was sad that I'd let Kylo Ren down, the man who'd inflicted nothing but pain and misery on me. I quickly buried that feeling away, it was pointless dwelling on it.

I went back to my quarters so I could cry in peace, away from prying eyes I lay on my bed sobbing. My misery was short lived after I had an incoming call from General Hux.

"Yes?" I answered.

"The resistance scum has escaped, go and find her."

The base was vast, and a snowstorm was swirling outside which made my search that much harder. I made my way into one of the vast buildings where I saw Kylo with an old man talking. From the way the man was dressed it was clear he wasn't First Order, so it surprised me that Kylo hadn't killed him just yet.

"Take off that mask you don't need it" The man shouted out as he got closer to Kylo.

"What do you think you'll see if I do?" His mask breathed as his stared at the man, I could feel fear and anticipation within Kylo. Who was this man?

"The face of my son." The man replied, my eyes widened of course that is who he was. I'd see glimpses of him in Kylo's memories of his childhood. He'd aged horribly over the years, I figured that's what happens when you lose a child to the dark side. I shuddered when I thought about my own father and how he was coping with my loss.

Kylo raised his hands to his mask and pulled it away from his head.

"Your son is gone." He said coldly. "He was weak and foolish like his father, so I destroyed him."

How ridiculous was this notion I thought to myself, you can't just kill off your past and become a new person? Deep down Kylo would always be his parent's son, there was no denying that. It's what caused the conflict that he felt within, his want to be powerful but his fear of losing himself in the process.

"That's what Snoke wants you to believe, but it's not true. My son is alive." His father walked closer to him now.

"No, the supreme leader is wise." Kylo was so wrong.

"Snoke is using you for your power, when he gets what he wants he'll crush you." His father was within touching distance now. If Kylo wanted to he could just have killed him already, he wasn't a force user so it would have been so easy to throw him off the side without even having to lay a finger on him.

"You know it's true."

I certainly did, once Kylo got too strong or failed him too many times I knew Snoke would just dispose of him. We meant nothing to him, we were just kept around until we served no further purpose for the First Order.

"It's too late." Kylo breathed, his face bathed in pain. I could feel his conflict burning and twisting inside of him, could this be the day he escapes the First Order?

"No it's not. Leave here with me and come home. We miss you." This hurt me, Kylo had a loving father who missed him and he didn't care enough to escape for him. I'd do anything for a chance to escape and it'd just been handed to him and he wasn't jumping at the chance to take it.

Kylo stared at him for what felt like an eternity, it looked like he was trying to make up his mind.

"I'm being torn apart, I wanna be free of this pain I know what I have to do but I don't know if I have the strength to do it. Will you help me?"

"Yes." His father said, his voice full of determination. He would help his son and help him be free of the order he was so certain.

Kylo dropped his helmet which fell to the floor with a loud clatter and pulled his light sabre from his belt. He held it to his father, and he took hold of it with Kylo still holding it too. They stared at each other for a while, whilst the sky turned black which signalled that our death star weapon was ready.

Kylo ignited his sabre, spearing his father with it whose eyes and mouth opened wide with surprise. This was the ultimate betrayal; this move really cemented my belief that this man was a monster. I heard a wookie screech and I stared up to see it stood with the scavenger and a man who I hadn't seen before.

The red sabre was retracted and Kylos father fell off the bridge, more screams rang out from the scavenger as he fell. The wookie shot Kylo with a bolt from his crossbow blaster, he fell clutching his side. I watched as the scavenger was pulled away by her companion, I couldn't let them get away, so I ran.

I ran out into the snow after them, I quickly caught up as  she slipped and skidded in the snow, coming from a desert planet she'd never experienced snow before and it showed. I quickly caught up to them and fired a shot at her companion that narrowly missed. They turned.

"You don't have to do this." Rey whispered, fear flooded her eyes.

"But I do, the supreme leader wishes it." I shouted.

"Come with us, join the resistance and leave this hateful place." She begged.

"No, my loyalty is to the first order." I snarled.

"They took your family away." She shouted.

"They will kill my family if I join the resistance."

Her companion pulled her away to run again, I reached out in the force and tripped them both to slow down her advances.

"Stop! Resistance scum." I ran and stood over her, pulling a blaster from my belt, ready to fire.

Suddenly I was airborne.

"She's mine!" A furious Kylo Ren screamed, and I was thrown against something hard and as I slowly lost consciousness I watched a blur of red and blue lights.
