Chapter Twenty-Two
The escape seemed to be coming faster than I had imagined it would, my sleep was disturbed by Kylo calling out to me.
"Aurora, I can feel you. You're so close now" He breathed, his voice heavy with desire.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"The Ileenium system you're here, somewhere. Hux is checking on some intelligence that the resistance is on D'Qar. And if they are, we will boil the planet." He said bitterly.
"But I'll die." I panicked, he was letting his anger get the better of him.
"You won't, we will give them short notice and, in their haste to evacuate I'll get you out."
"But Kylo I don't know if I'm strong enough to escape." I was worried, I was in no fit state to defend myself anymore. "I'm weak."
"You are, you don't belong with them. You'll find the will, I will help you."
The connection was lost, but I wish he could have told me how long I had before I could expect his arrival. So, I could at least be somewhat prepared, but this was Kylo what did I expect? His attitude was act first think later, after all there was always someone below him willing to clean up after his mess. I was worried that I wouldn't find the will to get away like he thought I clearly could. Before I'd left he'd spent barely any time with me, and I hadn't trained since Snoke ordered it to stop. I was so much weaker now and I was worried that when the time came I'd let him down and he'd end up getting himself hurt.
A week passed with no more connections or signs of a First Order invasion, until one night when the base seemed to become chaotic. I was moved to a new room, this time it was like a high security prison cell and the walls were made out of thick concrete. With one wall made up of thick metal bars which had a guard placed on it. Along the corridors I could hear frantic pacing, this must be the short warning the First Order was giving them. They were preparing the evacuation, I just had to hope that they wouldn't try to move me onto a ship before Kylo had a chance to get to me.
I paced my cell impatiently, I couldn't even feel him in the force and it worried me. What if he was too late and I ended up being evacuated too? Maybe then I could find the strength to escape and fly a shuttle back.
The guard suddenly levitating and crashing against my cell's door distracted me, a familiar sight greeted me. Kylo Ren had finally arrived.
I rushed to the cell door and reached my hand through the bars to touch him to make sure that he was real.
"I can't believe it's you, I couldn't feel you, I was so worried that you weren't coming." I gushed.
"Quiet." He hissed. "Move back."
I moved to the far edge of my cell as he used the force to push the metal door off its hinges but lowered it carefully to avoid it making a large noise as it fell.
He held his gloved hand out to me.
"Come on, quickly." He beckoned to me, I ran as fast as I could which turned into an awkward waddle.
He led me out of the corridors, I followed close behind determined to not get lost or caught.
"How did you get here?" I asked, as surely the resistance would have noticed his fighter appearing on the radar.
"A ship." He replied quickly as he peered around another corridor, pulling me by my arm to follow.
"Your ship" I hoped, it was the fastest of the fleet and we'd be sure to get away in it.
