Chapter Twenty-Six
Kylo's waves of guilt followed him around, I couldn't get to the bottom of it, he was acting even more possessive than before with me. I couldn't put my finger on it, he was overcompensating for something. One morning whilst I was lounging in bed, I heard him in our living room.
"Why's the force connecting us, you and I?" I heard him call out, who was he talking to?
I peered around the door to look for him, and I just saw his back to me, he was alone.
"Did he tell you what happened? The night I destroyed his temple did he tell you why?" He took his time speaking again it was as if he was listening to someone's response.
"You do? Oh you do." He breathed. "You have that look in your eyes, from the forest when you called me a monster"
Who was he communicating to?
He took a step further away from me "Yes I am."
There was more silence before he wiped his face and water dripped from his hand onto the floor.
"Who are you talking to?" I asked him and he jumped.
"No one."
"I am not stupid I saw you." I walked up to him and held my hand against his face. "Please don't keep this from me."
He tried to duck away from my touch, but I firmly held him.
"I told you it was nothing." He sighed
"Liar." I spat, I thought we'd promised to not keep things from each other we were supposed to be a partnership.
He growled, smacking my hand away from his face.
"Believe what you want, I don't care. I'm going to interrogate the prisoner."
"Again?" I shook my head, he'd repeatedly visited the prisoner to not actually get any information from him.
"He's keeping something from me I know it."
"That makes two of us." I muttered under my breath.
He glared at me, leaving me alone.
--
I wasn't alone for long, Trudgen came in soon after Kylo left so I still had a protection detail.
"How is Cardo?" I hadn't seen him since he'd been carried off the ship and taken to medbay.
"He'll be okay." Trudgen replied pacing by the window.
"You can sit." I gestured over to the chair next to me, and he hesitated before pulling the vibroclaver off his shoulder it hitting the floor with a loud clatter. "You can remove your helmet also."
He ignored me, folding his arms over the large knife he kept strapped to his belt.
"How is it coming along with the prisoner?" I hated the awkward silences I had with most of the knights. There all weren't as forthcoming as Ushar was, he at least could try and hold a conversation with me.
"It's difficult, he's resisting us."
"Why is he so important?" I pushed for answers, someone would tell me eventually.
"He knows where Luke Skywalker is."
I stared at him, why hadn't Kylo told me this himself? I could have maybe helped extract the information from him.
--
Kylo returned late in the evening and immediately dismissed Trudgen and pulled me into his arms.
"What's come over you?" I teased, surprised by his sudden closeness.
