Harriette POV

Since being here I've spent a lot of time in a tree. It's in the middle of the woods and very high up. So if there is that chance hikers or people come near me, they won't be able to see me.

Me and my dad spent a while in Vancouver. Even though we were still in the city, we were able to find a place where I could shift and we could run around.

But here I am now, in a damn tree. My back against the trunk, one leg dangling off and the other had one arm on it. I smiled a little looking out over the city and trees.

It's been just over a year since i left England and I've been doing good. Me, Lexi and winter of course miss Damien but have learned to accept he wants us dead.

Out of nowhere, I saw a familiar ginger wolf walked past the tree. I smiled and jumped down, making him yelp and jumped back. As soon as he saw me, his wolf smiled and jumped around. All of a sudden I was underneath the wolf getting slobbered all over.

"Get off me you big lug." I laughed at him. He ran behind a tree and came back out with shorts on. We both ran up to each other and hugged each other.

"Long time no see." He held me tightly.

"I missed you to, Ryker." I smiled.

"How have you been? It's been a while." He pulled away from me.

"Ok. Better than what I thought I would be." I told him.

"Come on, I'm sure dustin and Alec would love to see you back here." Ryker nudged me and we started walking. "So where did you go?"

"Me and my dad went to Vancouver for a couple months. We travelled around Canada for a bit then decided to come home." I explained.

"I didn't think you'd be gone for a year and three months." He sighed.

"Neither. Every time I asked my dad to come back he down right said no. But the last time he gave up and said yes."

"How long have you been back?"

"A month. I know I should have told you and Dustin but I can't see him just yet." I looked at my feet.

"He's been a mess, Harri. He's been at the cottage sleeping in your bed everyone now and then, sometimes not even coming back to the pack house for meetings. I know he was in the wrong but maybe you could talk to him. Even if it's over the phone." Ryker suggested.

"You know what? Yeah, I will. Lexi has been talking to Tobias but won't tell me what about. And I'm sure he hasn't told Damien about it either." I chuckled.

"Probably." He laughed. "But I have a serious question."

"What's that?" I looked at him.

"Why the fuck were you in a tree?" Ryker laughed at me.

"Remember the first time you saw me and found out I'm the hybrid. Well that's my favourite tree to sit in. It's got an amazing view and I can sit there without humans seeing me so high up." I told him.

Ryker nodded and we carried on talking about things. Dustin and Alec had seen me in Vancouver a couple times over the months, it was nice but I wanted to come home, where Damien is. Even if I can't see him.

Eventually we got to the familiar cabin in the woods. I masked my scent so it would be a surprise for Dustin. Ryker chuckled at me as we walked closer. Just then I got the scent of Damien, Toby, Tom and Jeremy.

Ryker nodded at me so I used my vampire speed and ran up to hide in a tree. Hopefully they didn't get my scent and won't.

Dustin POV

The scent of my mate filled my nose as he walked through the door. My son sat on my hip as I walked from the kitchen into the living room.

"Hey baby. How was your run?" I smiled at him.

"It was good." Ryker came over and pecked my lips and took Alec in his arms. "Just caught a couple rabbits and squirrels."

"That's good. I'm going to go see Shelby and Derek later so they can babysit Alec. I've got a lot of shit to do and I have to go get blood bags from a clan near by." I sighed.

"Ok. Want some company?" He asked.

"No baby. Only vampires can enter their territory. I think they had a witch place a spell so only our kind can get in and out." I told him.

"Well there's a present for you outside." He whispered lowly so only I could hear.

"What is it?" I squealed.

"I don't know. Go have a look." He smiled at me. I nodded then went to the front door.

When I stood at the front door, I couldn't see anything or get a scent. Just then I saw a familiar face in a tree smiling at me. I used my vampire speed and climbed up the tree.

Once we were both safely on the branch, we didn't hesitate to hug each other.

"What are you doing here?" I asked her.

"My dad let us come back. But I have to try and avoid a certain someone." Harriette sighed.

"It's ok. He'll be going soon anyway for work. Then you can come in and see your nephew." I smiled at her.
