Damon's POV

She's the hybrid. Harriette is the hybrid and I never knew about it. I almost killed my mate, for what? How the hell did the council come up with them rumours.

Harriette is such a kind, loving girl. Yes there may be times where she's had her angry days but has never hurt someone. She wouldn't even be able to harm a fly if she wanted to.

After Harriette was pulled away from me, the boys held me back. I don't understand. How can my Harri be an 'abomination?'

Once I calmed down a bit, I shifted and sat down. Tears still streamed down my cheeks as I thought about my mate.

"Damien." Jeremy called out.

"Did you all know? And didn't think to tell me?" I questioned them.

"Only I did for a short time. Then Jeremy and Tom caught us talking and she told them. We've all chose to keep it a secret to protect her. Damien how can a girl like her take down a whole village in one night? She doesn't even eat deers for fuck sake because they were her mums favourite animal. Any other person would take down a deer even if it was their mates favourite animal." Ryker stated.

"Plus she's lived on blood bags her whole life. Whatever the council told us is bullshit and you can't deny that. If anything you should be the one saying these things. As her mate you should know she can't even kick a damn wall without feeling guilty about it." Jeremy said.

"How can she be the hybrid?" I muttered. "Is that why her scent was familiar to us but couldn't place it?"

"Yeah." They all nodded.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because you wanted her dead. We didn't tell you because she's so innocent and pure that you would have taken the life of an innocent and your mate." Tom stated.

"Bro you are so caught up with trying to kill that hybrid that you didn't think it could have been your mate. You were prepared to kill her and anyone could have seen that you didn't want to." Ryker sighed.

"Because it's what I needed to do as king." I spat out.

"The throne doesn't mean shit to you and you know it. You'd rather have a small house in the middle of the woods with kids running around with your mate. What do you choose, being king or having Harriette by your side? And don't bullshit with us." Ryker said.

"Harriette. There is no doubt I'll have her by my side. I just wished she had told me so we could have spoke about it and not some rogues telling me." I sighed.

"Come on bro. Let's go to Dustin's cabin for a bit then we can talk to Harri later on and get all this cleared up." Ryker helped me up.

All of us shifted and ran to the cabin in the woods. When we got there, Ryker gave us all some joggers and a T-shirt. Wolves are naturally warm so we don't need much clothing to warm us up in the winter.

We all sat down while Ryker cleaned up the got chocolate that was on the floor. The remaining cup on the table had my mates scent all over it. The urge to pick it up and sniff it was annoying. The need and want to have Harri by me was so strong.

"What are we doing to do in the meantime." Toby broke the silence.

"I don't know." Tom sighed.

We all went back to silence but then the door opening got our attention. Ryker stood up and took Alec from his mates arms. The baby started squirming but calmed when Ryker held him to his chest. Obviously radiating his heat to his pup.

Dustin sat down next to his mate and son, curling up to him. Ryker held Alec with one hand and the other went around Dustin.

"Harri left." Dustin muttered.

"What?" I looked at him with disbelief.

"Harri and Aiden left so he could keep her safe from you."

"Do you know where they have gone?" My voice started getting louder.

"No. They usually just leave and get the next flight that leaves wherever it goes. She could be on her way to Tokyo or to Canada. I don't know. Next think about who you put your hands around because you may just lose people." Dustin spat out then went to the kitchen.

"He's right you know." Jeremy said.

"I know." I sighed.

"Do you? Do you know Damien? Because as far as I'm aware you're the one that almost killed my best friend and your mate. Don't give me the 'I know,' shit because you don't. If you had just sat down and spoke about it then I would still have my best friend, the boys would have a friend and my son would have a mentor to keep his thirst under control. Because news flash Damien, Harri is the only one that gets the hunger and need to hunt more than anyone." Dustin snapped.

"What do you mean? Thirst and hunt?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

"You know when your wolf needs to hunt and goes all rabid? Well Harri gets that. As well as the thirst of a adult vampire. Add both of them together it's like chaos and a feeling no one should go through. But Harri keeps that urge to shift and hunt a human down because her, Lexi and winter can't hurt someone. If they did then she would have so much self blame and would be sent to a nut house. And she didn't get that from Aiden. Aiden is over five hundred years old and has a thirst like no other. She gets that from him." He spat out.

"Harriette is the way she is because her mums traits most dominant in her. That kindness, loyalty and pureness Harriette has is all from her mum who died while giving birth to her. Do me a favour Damien and don't look for her. She'll come back sooner or later. But I doubt it'll be any time soon. But the next time you lay a hand on my best friend like that again, I will rip your head off. I don't give a shit if you're a king or not, your head will be off your shoulders." He threatened.

Dustin picked up Alec then walked up the stairs. I stayed quiet knowing Dustin is right. But now it's just the waiting game.
