They say maturity comes with experience and not age, and you certainly agree. Mr. Choi of the music department is already approaching his late twenties, but he's as much of an airhead as your toddler nephew. You weren't the type to fall for childish guys really; you tend to look for an older man to date.
But there you were, seven o'clock in the evening, waiting for your co-teacher to finish grading papers so you could walk home together.
"Oh, you're still here, Teacher?" he said when he passed by your desk and only then found you almost asleep.
You stood up quickly and took your bag. "Ah, yes. I was checking some homework. Are you about to go home, Teacher?"
"Yes. Although I'm pretty hungry, so I might hit up a convenience store first."
"A convenience store? Why don't we just grab a bite at this restaurant nearby? I heard their chicken is great. I'm a bit hungry myself."
He gave you the most innocent smile. You doubt he thought of the invitation as anything but friendly. Just how would you be able to make him see your interest without needing to tell it straight?
--
Halfway through your sandwich-her managed to convince you to only grab a bite and eat something heartier at home so you wouldn't stay out too late into the night-you found your courage.
"I'm in love with you, teacher. I know nothing will come out of this, but it's fair to say this, right? At least I won't be thinking of anything whenever I am treated nicely. I'll know my place."
Your breathing was ragged after letting that out of your chest. The words just flowed out of your mouth since you've been keeping them for a while.
You felt a tap on your shoulder. You looked to your right and found Teacher Youngjae nodding. "That was very brave of you to admit. And thank you that you trusted me enough to tell me. So, who's the teacher you're in love with?"
You sat there, blinking.
He did not just let your confession go to waste because silly little airhead him was too busy taking out the cucumber out of his sandwich, right?
"Wait, I shouldn't ask that, right? I should respect your privacy. But if you're in love with a co-teacher, maybe you should wait until they change schools or something? You know how romance within the workplace is highly frowned upon by our principal. But, of course, it's up to you. If you really like him, then I can't do anything but support you. What do you want to do?"
"I want to punch him in the face."
"What?! Why would you do that?!"
You took a deep breath. Damn. How could he embarrass you like this? "Because he's so dense and I don't know what else I can do to make him get it."
"He sounds like an awful person. Why do you like him then?"
You shook your head. Looking up to him, with mayonnaise at the side of his lip, you just couldn't resist. "Because he's just too cute."
