"BUT I REMEMBER THE SMILE
YOU GAVE AND THE BAD
DAYS START TO DISAPPEAR,"

[Name] sat beside Satori's bed in the hospital. The clock ticking was the only thing that sounded in the room besides soft snores. It was excruciating to just watch the scene. The [Hair Color] haired lost count of how many tears ran down their cheeks.

They got the call that their best friend was in the hospital due to a hit and run. They felt like they were in a void and desperately trying to claw themself out. [Name] tried to tell themself it was just a dream and that they would wake up, but they never saw the morning after hours.

Eventually evening hit and [Name] was feeling a little drowsy. They decided a few minutes of shut eye couldn't hurt and it's not like they would be leaving. They too succumbed to slumber as they waited for Satori to awaken.

Satori felt something soft and fluffy on his left hand. His fingers traced around the edges of it and he could easily tell it was someone's hair. Twirling a strand of hair in his fingers, he found it oddly soothing. This person visited him and it warmed his heart.

Although once he opened his eyes and looked to his left, he froze. Sleeping peacefully there, was a [Hair Color] haired angel that came to visit him. Satori was sure he was delusional (mostly blamed the medicine the doctors made him take).

He felt as light as a feather once he saw [Name] lying right beside his bed. Even though years has passed, they were still beautiful as the first day he saw them.

Sometimes Satori wishes that he could sweep them off their feet and head into paradise. However, later in life he began to realize he never needed to sweep them off their feet to an utopia. He was always already there and [Name] was his paradise, the place where we all want to be.

The life support on the other side of Satori's room showed his heart beat getting a little slower. He shifted a little but it caused [Name] to stir. Letting out a sigh, the red eyed stopped moving, deciding it was best to not move and interrupt [Name]'s nap.

Being in a situation that could possibly take away your life awoken something in Satori. That at any moment, his life could be stripped from him and those he cherishes.

Satori had the good days to remind himself and pull himself out of the dark thoughts. Even if his life strays further from Lady Luck, there was always the good times. The times where he and [Name] used to follow clouds as kids or the times that they painted and read manga.

Those were the times that made the red head smile and even break out a chuckle. When a stranger would look at all that happened to Satori, they'd mostly look at the downsides in his life. Yet Satori always dismissed those parts and focused on the ones he held close to his heart. Some days he would be the definition of an optimist.

[Eye Color] eyes opened slowly and tore Satori away from his thoughts as he now payed attention to them. A soft gasp left [Name]'s lips as they saw Satori awake. Their lips formed into a smile as their eyes got watery.

"Oh my gosh Satori! I thought you weren't going to wake up! I—,"

The red head left a small kiss on their forehead, and then their cheek. It stunned [Name] and even Satori himself. The sudden urge to do it was irresistible like all the years of trying to do it and it ends up in the most prominent times. He would never admit it but he was aiming for their lips before he coward out last moment.

A crimson color rushed onto [Skin Tone] cheeks. A small smile formed on Satori's lips as he embraced [Name]. This time they knew it wasn't platonically like they thought all these years.

With red eyes once again drooping, Satori made a wiggly smile as his head fell down into [Name]'s arms.

"Maybe," yawn "this wouldn't be so bad,"

A small chuckle came out of the [Hair Color] haired as they heard what Satori has mumbled before closing his eyes. It was their turn to kiss his forehead and make him feel special.

Rose tinted clouds passed by and the setting sun outlined Satori's face. The sun felt warm on his skin but it wasn't as warm as being in [Name]'s arms.

His vision got darker and his breathing evened. The soothing sounds of the outside lulled Satori to sleep.

"How long were you holding that in?"

[Name] chuckled as they started massaging the red head's scalp.

"If I knew how you felt, it would've quenched the butterflies erupting in my stomach ever since middle school. If only we got through it quicker. Maybe, just maybe we might've had a better life so far,"
