Chapter eight- the calm before the storm

I shook my head slightly, staring down at my untouched bowl of oatmeal. I hadn't eaten anything all morning, my nerves betraying my appetite.

"(Y/n), you need to eat something or you won't have any energy for the match later" Harry urged, though he himself also hadn't taken a bite of his breakfast.
"I am eating" I stuck my spearmint gum in between my teeth. Harry merely sighed, exhausted at his friends stubbornness.
"Gum is not food"
"Is too"
"Is not"
"Is too!"
"Throw it out, (y/n)."
"Do it for me" I taunted him, sticking my gum back between my teeth, pushing it out slightly with my tongue.

He paused for a second, and I almost thought I had won, but then he took the gum from my mouth and placed it into a napkin

"Wow you actually did it, you must seriously have something against me chewing gum, huh?"
"I have something against you not eating" He argued, picking up a piece of toast he had spread with jam, and holding it up to my mouth
"Eat." He ordered.

I obliged, taking a small bite, knowing he wouldn't give up. He was possibly the most stubborn person I had ever met, other than myself. Seeing that he made some progress, he grinned, the bitten toast still in his hand, and said

"take another bite" I shook my head, pushing his hand away.
"Nuh-uh" I whined
"(Y/n) if you don't finish this toast by the time the game starts I won't help you with your Defense Against the Dark Arts homework."
"You wouldn't dare"
"Try me"
I groaned, leaning forward to take another bite of the toast he was holding, knowing I needed his help, especially with Snape temporarily taking over the subject in Lupin's mysterious absence. Me and Hermione had figured out his animalistic ailment after I realised the form of his boggart, but had refrained from informing Harry and Ron, wanting to be sure before we made such a tall claim.

"Get a room, losers, no one wants to see that" Pansy screeched from the Slytherin table.

I glanced over in search for the familiar grey eyes that had been only inches away from mine yesterday. When I found them, they looked nothing like they did on the quidditch field. All trace of arrogance and slyness had gone, replaced by pure loathing as they darted from me to Harry.

"Shut your hole, Parkinson" Hermione yelled back, and I exchanged pleasantly surprised looks with Harry and Ron. It was usually myself or Harry that spoke during encounters with Malfoy and his posse
"No one wants to see you run your mouth all day, but that's never stopped you, has it?" I joined
"He's giving me toast" I scoffed, tilting my head to Harry, "Stop being so fucking over dramatic"

Pansy huffed, but didn't continue. Shame. Really wanted her to give me an excuse to take Harry's toast and shove it up her-

"(Y/n) are you listening?"

Oliver's words interrupted my thoughts as I looked up to face him. I had finished my toast, much to the contempt of Harry, and was now in my uniform, waiting for the match to begin. I peeked my head outside the tent, peering up the the tall stand that were packed with cheering students, eager to watch the game despite the steady downpour of rain. I sat back down in the tent, as Oliver stuttered through his pregame pep talk.

Walking out to the field, my frown deepened at the sight of the downpour getting heavier, drowning out the cheers from the crowd. The Hufflepuff team emerged from their tent, approaching us from across the field. Their entrance was presumably also met with cheers, though with the raging storm, I couldn't be sure. Oliver shook hands with the Hufflepuff captain, Cedric, who smiled politely at Oliver. I barely made out Madam Hooch signalling the start of games, and discovered it was much more difficult to fly through the rain than it was to walk. The cold draped over my body like a sheet of ice, my skin prickling then turning numb as I forced myself to play as best I could, thinking about the embarrassing thugs Malfoy could make me do if I ended up owing the git a favour. By some grace of god, I had managed to score a few times, putting Gryffindor in the lead. I screamed as a bludger headed towards my head out of the corner of my eye, and I lept off my broom, hanging onto the fire bolt with my right hand as I watched the ball zoom past above me. Remounting my broom in midair, I breathed a sigh of relief and forced my broom steady as I went to block a pass. A flash of lighting struck, illuminating my teammates as they flew back towards the ground. Oliver had called for a time-out. The team huddled under a large umbrella, Fred and George pulling me between the two to keep me warm.

"Thanks to (y/n), we're fifty points up, but unless we get the snitch soon, we'll be playing into the night"

Suddenly, I remembered a charm I had read once. Pointing my wand at harry, who was desperately wiping his blurry glasses on his robes , I uttered

"Impervius!"

And Harry smiled as his glasses remained completely dry.

"Brilliant, (y/n)!" Oliver exclaimed, looking as though he could cry of happiness, "Okay team , let's go for it!"

It seems my spell had worked. Harry was no longer flying into players, and I resumed my duty of scoring. Suddenly, I saw, to my surprise, I glint of gold, as well as, my heart dropped, a yellow robe whipping after it. "Harry!" I shouted, pointing at what I saw. Harry's eyes widened,  before dashing after the snitch. It would be close, Cedric had a head start, but Harry was a better seeker, I knew he was...we were going to win...we had to...we...why was it so quiet? The roar of the wind has disappeared as though the storm has simply forgotten to make noise.

Then I looked down.

At least a hundred Dementors, their hidden faces pointing up at the sky, were standing beneath me. I felt a sudden agonising wave of hurt burdening my heart, my mind clouded over and i was now feeling a very different sort of coldness. Not a physical one, but one that felt like it was flowing beneath my skin, freezing my blood and making my bones crack. I heard voices through the ominous quiet. Someone was calling to me

"(Y/n)
(Y/n) please help me don't leave me you have to save me"

Noah. He needed me. I needed to help me, I couldn't lose him, he's all I had.
I was falling
