I rushed back over to the Gryffindor table just as Professor Dumbledore began
"The moment had come! The Triwizard Tournament is about to start. I would like to say a few words of explanation before we bring in the casket"
"The what" Harry whispered and I shrugged
" Just to clarify the procedure that we will be following this year. But first, let me introduce, for those who do not know them, Mr. Bartemius Crouch, Head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation"
there was a smattering of polite applause while I frowned.
"and Mr. Ludo Bagman, Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports"
This time, I joined in the applause
Mr. Bagman and Mr. Crouch have worked tirelessly over the last few months on the arrangements for the Triwizard Tourna- ment," Dumbledore continued, "and they will be joining myself, Professor Karkaroff, and Madame Maxime on the panel that will judge the champions' effort. The casket, then, if you please, Mr. Filch"
The grimy caretaker appeared from a corner of the hall, lugging with him an extremely old jewel encrusted chest.
"The instructions for the tasks the champions will face this year have already been examined by Mr. Crouch and Mr. Bagman," said Dumbledore as Filch placed the chest carefully on the table before him, "and they have made the necessary arrangements for each challenge. There will be three tasks, spaced throughout the school year, and they will test the champions in many different ways . . . their magical prowess — their daring — their powers of deduction — and, of course, their ability to cope with danger"
I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat, glancing nervously at Cedric, who smiled at me reassuringly and mouthed "it's okay" and I nodded.
"As you know, three champions compete in the tournament," Dumbledore continued calmly, "one from each of the participating schools. They will be marked on how well they perform each of the Tournament tasks and the champion with the highest total after task three will win the Triwizard Cup. The champions will be chosen by an impartial selector: the Goblet of Fire"
He strolled over to the dusty chest, unlatched it, and pulled out a majestically carved goblet, blue and white flames crackling inside it.
"Anybody wishing to submit themselves as champion must write their name and school clearly upon a slip of parchment and drop it into the goblet," said Dumbledore. "Aspiring champions have twenty-four hours in which to put their names forward. Tomorrow night, Halloween, the goblet will return the names of the three it has judged most worthy to represent their schools. The goblet will be placed in the entrance hall tonight, where it will be freely acces- sible to all those wishing to compete. To ensure that no underage student yields to temptation, I will be drawing an Age Line around the Goblet of Fire once it has been placed in the entrance hall. Nobody under the age of seventeen will be able to cross this line. Finally, I wish to impress upon any of you wishing to compete that this tournament is not to be entered into lightly. Once a champion has been selected by the Goblet of Fire, he or she is obliged to see the tournament through to the end. The placing of your name in the goblet constitutes a binding, magical contract. There can be no change of heart once you have become a champion. Please be very sure, therefore, that you are wholeheartedly prepared to play before you drop your name into the goblet. Now, I think it is time for bed. Good night to you all"
"Where are you two sleeping?" I asked Eli and Viktor as i passed them on the way to the Gryffindor common room with Harry, Hermione, and Ron,who gaped dumbly at Viktor
"We have sleeping quarters on our ship" Eli responded, and Viktor nodded and said, "we'll see you tomorrow, (y/n)?"
"Course you will" I said, and they headed down to the docks. I rolled my eyes at Ron, who stared at me wide-eyed, "what, Ronald"
"You...you...you're friends with Krum?!" He sputtered, and Hermione shook her head while Harry grinned, "and you didn't think to tell us?"
"I only just met him at dinner" I defended, climbing up the staircase that lead to the girl's dorms, "I'll introduce you three tomorrow"
"I'm holding you to that, (y/n)" Ron yelled as he and Harry disappeared up the stairs.
"Morning" Eli greeted as he and Viktor sat down across from me
"Good morning, boys" I said, taking a bite of my toast. Everyone had woken up much earlier than what was normal for a Saturday, all wanting to get a better look at the goblet.
"Come on, Viktor, lets go" Eli said, pointing at the goblet and holding up a small piece of paper with his name scribbled on it.
Viktor pulled out a similar piece of paper with his own name and headed up the hall, placing their names into the fire, with tumultuous applause from onlookers and quidditch fans. Ron, himself, clapped so much his hands were red.
A pair of large hands wrapped around my abdomen from behind me, and I giggled, breathing in the wooden cologne
"You here to enter, Cedric?"
"Mostly to see you, but that too" he said, walking up to the goblet, which cast crystal blue light onto his chiselled face.
The entirety of hogwarts clapped as he dropped the paper with his name on it into the fire. After breakfast, Cedric lead me outside to a large grassy field with hundred of towering trees, releasing litterings of red and orange leaves with each gust of wind. We strolled along the black lake, his arm around my waist as I leaned into him.
"Ceddie!" An unfamiliar high pitched voice sounded from behind us, and I furrowed my brows at the strawberry blonde Hufflepuff in Cedric's year prancing our way, completely ignoring me and speaking directly to him, "you forgot this at my dorm room last night" she said slyly, pulling out a black hoodie with the name Diggory detailed in yellow on the back, "you know..." she continued, eyes darting to me maliciously for a second, "during our date" she winked at him obnoxiously, before turning and skipping away, clearly pleased with herself.
"(Y/n) it's not what you think" Cedric said immediately
"Mhm" I wasn't listening, walking so fast my legs started to burn
"(Y/n) I swear, it wasn't a date, she wanted to study and I didn't want to appear rude by turning her down"
"Well aren't you just a saint" I laughed, though I wasn't amused
"Please don't do this, I swear nothing happened, I mean, Isabelle tried, but I didn't let her-"
"Oh that's her name" I spat
"(Y/n) don't be mad"
"I'm not"
"You are"
"I have no right to be mad at you, Cedric" I said bitterly, "you don't owe me anything, you can get with whoever you want, we aren't together, you aren't mine and I'm not yours"
"Them let's change that"
I halted abruptly, his words making me falter
"What?"
"I wanna be yours, (y/n). I want you to be mine. Be my girlfriend."
"How would Isabelle feel about that" I said sarcastically
"Screw Isabelle"
"Well in that case..." I trailed off, closing the space between us and he didn't hesitate, crashing his lips onto mine with an intense hunger. When we pulled away, our lips were the same shade as the leaves below us
