"No, hell no! Now your starting to do too much." Ranae's mother shook her head at her daughter wishes. Ranae expected that to be the answer but she wasn't taking no for an answer.
"Mama please! It's only for a couple days!" She pleaded, low key getting agitated.
"No Ranae. There's no way I'm letting you go all the way to California with a boy I never even met before. I don't care if it was for one day, I don't trust it." She shut her down and Ranae smacked her lips.
"You don't trust it? What's the difference now then it was on my birthday? I still spent the night with him." She slipped up and admitted. Her mother furrowed her brows while Ranae eyes grew wide.
"Excuse me? I hope you didn't say what I think you just said because last time I checked, you said it was a double date! You best to have been rooming with the other young lady y'all went out with." She scolded.
It was so many lies Ranae had to keep up with that they were all starting to slip out without her control, she just couldn't help it anymore. She remembered telling her mother it was a double date which was a lie, what she didn't know was that Ranae and Donald went to his house instead. Just the two of them.
They might've not slept in the same bed that night, but they did more than sharing a bed once upon a time.
Admitting half the shit that's been going on might get her in a world of trouble but she was tired of lying.
"Well I wasn't because there was no other young lady and it for sure wasn't a double date." She said flat out and her mother looked at her as if she grew two heads.
"So you mean to tell me you lied and snuck off with some boy for your birthday AND spent the night with him? Your getting besides yourself Ranae! Your turning into one of these fast ass little girls and I'm not having it. You know better." She went on and on with the ranting and Ranae was taking back by her mother calling her fast "What else are you hiding huh? Your pregnant?"
Ignoring the her last question, Ranae huffed in annoyance "Mama I am not a little girl anymore, I'm eighteen alright. I should be able to see and spend time with my boyfriend whenever I want. That's what a relationship is all about."
"Your not a little girl anymore? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is me and your fathers apartment, you don't pay a damn thing. That car outside, did you buy it or did your father get it for you?" She asked and all Ranae could do was roll her eyes "Exactly, so don't hit me with that same old line I'm not a little girl anymore because by the looks of it you are."
"Just because I don't pay rent or didn't buy my own car doesn't mean anything, I'm still eighteen which mean I shouldn't have to be cooped up in this apartment all day and ask you if I could leave just to walk next door." Ranae defended herself and had a point "At the end of the day I already made up my mind, I'm going to LA for the week." She told her mother like that would be the end of the discussion.
Her mom grabbed her by her arm before she could completely walk off "What the hell did I just say? I don't know what type of trance this little boy got you in but you better snap out of it quick." She warned her and seconds after that, Ranae's father walked in the front door "Oh I'm glad your here! Go on Ranae, go back and forth with your father how your doing me."
Ranae calmly turned towards her father "Daddy, can I please go to California for the week?"
"California? With your friends?" He asked.
