I Didn't Know

I SLOWLY open my eyes and adjust my sight to the light in the room. I can feel calm breathing on my nape and a heavy arm wrapped around my waist area. Memories from last night came across my mind. His touch and kisses... I can still feel it on my skin.

I lifted his arm, afraid that it would wake him up, pero mas lalo lang humigpit ang yakap nito sa bewang ko, pulling me closer to him. I exhaled heavily before I waited for 2 minutes or more, just to make sure na tulog pa talaga siya.

I slowly got up, holding the blanket over my chest. I looked around, looking for our scattered clothes, but saw neatly folded clothes on top of the dresser nstead. I am already wearing my underwear, so he wore it to me last night. I have never felt so embarrassed in my whole life.

After getting dressed, I took one last glance at Loey. He's still sleeping so calmly and hugging the pillow so tightly. Maingat akong lumabas sa guest room. If I'm not mistaken it's already 6 in the morning at tumigil na rin ang ulan. I quickly took a shower right after I went inside my room. 

The water was so cold, cold enough to wake me up from the realization that he's not mine to love anymore. Hindi dapat nangyari 'yon. Walang dapat mangyari sa amin.

After getting dressed, I took my car key at lakad-takbo akong bumaba. Upon reaching the living room, I saw Nanay Amelia preparing for breakfast. She felt my presence so she looked back at me.

"Oh anak, tinanghali ka yata ng gising? Nakatulog ka ba ng maayos?" Naiilang man, I still managed to answer with a nod. I have never slept for 5 hours or more. Ngayon lang ulit.

"Sandali, titimplahan lang kita ng kape." Sabi nito, pero pinigilan ko rin naman siya at sinabing aalis din ako kaagad.

I also asked her kung anong oras siya nakarating dito, and she replied na wala pang 30 minuto nang makarating siya dito. She has a spare key ng bahay kaya she has access to open the house.

"Nay, may bisita po pala tayo doon sa guest room. Pakihandaan nalang po ng agahan." Halos bulong ko ng sabi.

Nalilitong tumango nalang si Nanay Amelia.

Kaagad din akong pumasok sa sasakyan ko at dumiretso na sa hospital.

"Girl, are you free this weekend?" Jati, my friend asked me while I was busy looking at my patient's chart. Kakatapos lang din ng check-up niya sa akin but she stayed here in my office just to disturb me. Since it's lunchtime and I don't have any patients, I let her stay in.

"Yes, why?"

"Really?! I'll set you up a date with my cousinㅡ"

Before she could even finish what she's about to say, I cut her off.

"Can't you see?" I pointed at the pile of papers which was placed on top of my table, still not removing my gaze to the chart. "I'm free on the weekends, but that doesn't mean I'm going on a blind date. I still have tons of paper works to do."

On my peripheral vision, I saw her sulking. "Fine!" crossing her arms over her chest.

"But... don't you think it's time for you to finally have a boyfriend, after... what happened?" Agad akong napahinto sa pagpipirma. I heard her gasped and I pretended that I didn't hear what she just said. "I mean... sure, you say you're busy... pero girl, ilang taon ka ng walang dilig! Ilang years ka nang dry season. Jusko dsai! Ako naii-stress sa'yo."
