The next day, everyone was in the Great Hall eating lunch. At the gryffindor table, the golden trio was talking about a certain new kid. "Don't you think it's odd that the chamber opened when she arrived at the school," Ron reasoned. "What about Meg?" Hermione added. "She arrived at the same time she did." "No, Meg is the nicest person in the school," Harry said. "She made cookies for everyone, even Slytherins." Hermione agreed then looked at Y/n who was talking and laughing with Draco. "I mean, who would want Malfoy as their only friend," Hermione said. "What's her family like?" "She doesn't even have a last name," Ron replied. "Every teacher just calls her Miss Y/n or just Y/n." "Then we know what we have to do," Hermione said. "We need information, we have to find out who she is." "How?" Harry questioned.

"We follow her," Hermione answered. They all looked at her to see her grab her things and leave, they waited a moment then got up and followed her out. She walked around the corner and as the others were about to follow, Malfoy stopped them. "May I ask why you're stalking Y/n?" Draco asked, gaining her attention. Y/n hid behind the wall and listened to what they were saying. "We weren't... we-we were just," Hermione stammered thinking of an excuse. "What's it to you, Malfoy," Ron spat. "It's everything to me," Draco shot back. "Something you'll never understand unless you hold a piece of chicken in your hand." Y/n let out a light laugh then Harry spoke, "We just wanted to talk to her, get to know her better because we got off on the wrong foot."

Y/n furrowed her eyebrows, thinking as Draco said, "Take a hint, she doesn't want to talk to you. All you need to know is that you stay away from her." Draco turned and left, Y/n grabbed his arm and pulled him aside. "Did you hear that?" Y/n questioned. "I just got an awfully good idea, but I need you to help me." "Anything," Draco replied and she whispered something in his ear making him smirk. Later on, in class, they were learning how to turn animals into water goblets. Hermione raised her hand and Mcgonagoll spoke, "Yes, Miss Granger?" "Professor, I was wondering if you could tell us about the Chamber of Secrets?" Hermione asked. McGonagoll hesitated then sighed, "Very well. You all know, of course, that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Three of the founders co-existed quite harmoniously. One did not..."

"Three guesses who," Ron huffed. "Salazar Slytherin wished to be more selective about the students admitted to Hogwarts. He believed that magical learning should be kept within all-magic families. In other words, purebloods. Unable to sway the others, he decided to leave the school.," McGonagoll told. "According to legend, Slytherin had built a hidden chamber in this castle, known as the Chamber of Secrets. Shortly before departing, he sealed it until that time when his own true heir returned to the school. The heir alone would be able to open the Chamber of Secrets and unleash the horror within, and by so doing, purge the school of all those who, in Slytherin's view, were unworthy to study magic."

"Muggle-born," Hermione detected. "Yes. Naturally, the school has been searched many times for such a chamber. It has never been found," McGonagoll added. Y/n raised her hand and McGonagoll initiated for her to go. "Professor, what exactly does legend tell us lies within the Chamber?" She asked a bit worried. "The Chamber is said to be home to something which the heir of Slytherin alone can control. It is said to be home... to a monster," McGonagoll answered. Y/n looked down thinking, the trio noticed a few kids whispering a pointing at her before giggling. They shared a look as the class ended then walked down the hall talking. "What do you think that was about?" Hermione questioned. "I mean, the girls talking about Y/n." "I think it's obvious," Ron said looking ahead to see girls gossiping as Y/n walked by.

Y/n clutched her books as Draco glared at them and led her away. "People are making fun of her?" Hermione questioned. "No, she seems too strong headed to let that happen, but if there really is a Chamber of Secrets, and it's really been opened, that means..." "The Heir of Slytherin has returned to Hogwarts," Harry said. "The question is, who is it?" "Let's think," Ron interjected. "Who do we know who thinks Muggle-borns are scum?" "If you're talking about Malfoy-" "Of course I am," Ron confirmed. "You heard him: 'You'll be next, Mudbloods'!" "I heard him. But Malfoy?" Hermione replied. "The Heir of Slytherin? "Maybe Ron's right, Hermione. I mean, look at his family," Harry reasoned. "The whole lot of them have been in Slytherin for centuries."

"Y/n would know, I bet he tells her everything," Ron spoke. "We should find her." "You think that's a good idea?" Harry questioned. "Last time that happened she made fun of me, insulted your teeth, and called Ron poor." "I don't know, I just think we should see what's up with her because of what's happening," Hermione reasoned. "I think she went to the library." They went to the library trying to find her then Harry heard a soft cry from the back near the restricted section. "Guys," Harry whispered. They heard the crying and went to it, they saw Y/n sitting on the floor holding her knees to her chest through the bookshelf as she cried softly. "She's crying," Harry detected then went around to see her. "Are you okay?" She looked up quickly and spat, "What do you want?"

"We heard you crying, I just... want to see if you're okay," Harry reasoned. "Why?" Y/n questioned. "Cause whether you were mean to me or not, I want to help," Harry replied, sitting in front of the shelfs as the others joined him. "Besides, we saw what was happening." Y/n glanced at the others and Hermione spoke, "You can talk to us." Y/n hesitated then spoke softly, "People think I'm the heir of Slytherin. They think I'm some freak that they can point at, Draco is the only one who seems to believe me." "That's why you're so close," Harry mentioned. "Yes," Y/n admitted. "I tried to show everyone that I'm innocent, but they keep calling me a freak and calling me evil. I just started to like it here, now people are being so mean... like I was to you three."

She looked at them and sniffed, "I'm so sorry... I don't have anything else to say than that I am so truly sorry, I just didn't want to look... weak." Harry looked at the others and they all moved closer to her as Hermione spoke, "It's okay, we get it." "You do?" Y/n questioned. "Yeah," Ron added. "We understand." "Can you answer something for us?" Harry asked. "Do you know who the heir is?" "No," Y/n answered. "You don't-" "No, that never acquired to us," Harry assured. "We just think it's Malfoy." "Draco wouldn't tell me something like that," Y/n answered. "He would tell someone he knows who probably forgot about it in their thick skulls." "Crabbe and Goyle," Ron detected.

"Yes, I may have a solution," Y/n said, wiping her tears. "Mind you, it would be difficult. Not to mention we'd be breaking about fifty school rules. And it would be dangerous. Very dangerous." "When do we start?" Harry replied, making Y/n smile. She got up and took a book from the shelves and showed them. "Here it is: 'The Polyjuice Potion. Properly brewed, the Polyjuice Potion allows the drinker to transform himself temporarily into the physical form of another...'" Y/n informed. "You mean, Harry and I drink some of this stuff and we turn into Crabbe and Goyle?" Ron asked and Y/n nodded. "But it's tricky. I've never seen a more complicated potion. Lacewing flies, leeches, fluxweed. And, of course, we'll need a bit of whoever we want to change into too. It will take about... a month, but I can get it done."

"Thanks," Harry smiled. "If you want, we could start over. It would be nice to get to know you." "Really?" Y/n smiled back. "I would like that very much. Wow, friends with Harry Potter, wicked." Harry laughed lightly as the others smiled then Harry spoke, "We're gonna go to the courtyard for a bit, want to come along?" "Maybe later, I have to meet up with someone," Y/n replied. "Okay, see you at dinner," Harry said, walking off with the others. When they were completely gone, Y/n looked at the book and scoffed before wiping the rest of her tears off. "That was good," Draco smirked, walking out from behind the bookshelf. "I even believed you." "Who wouldn't believe that, poor little defenseless girl needs friends," Y/n joked then laughed evilly placing the book in her bag. "They think you're the heir, that's hilarious."

"You know who it is?" Draco questioned. "Of course I do," Y/n answered. "But, that doesn't matter. What matters is that they trust me, I need to keep it that way. Sorry, I have to be their friend now." "Still gonna cheer me on at the quidditch match, right?" Draco asked. "Of course," Y/n assured, then they left to the common room.
