Chapter Twenty-six: The trophy girl
"So class of 2015 as you all know this years senior trip is a three day long camping trip. It will begin next Friday morning, and we will not return until the following Sunday Night."
Lots of groans could be heard through out the auditorium, and when I felt Claire bump my leg I looked over to see her rolling her eyes.
"Are you going?" She questioned, and I shrugged.
"Maybe." I glanced beside her to see Tyler raising an eyebrow.
"Why wouldn't you go? You used to love camping." He said as he leaned forward to see me around Claire.
We used to go camping all of the time with our parents before, our Dad passed away from a heart attack.
I've hated being in the woods ever since. Tyler knows this, and that was the reason I didn't answer him, and turned to face Axel instead.
"Are you going?" I questioned as he slid his hand into mine interlacing our fingers, and I smiled as he kissed my knuckles.
He is so sweet.
"I don't know . . . are you?" He asked, and I bit down on my lip in thought.
"I think I might, if you go." I didn't mind sounding clingy.
He chuckled deeply, and leaned over kissing my jaw. "Would you miss me if I didn't go?"
I rolled my eyes. "No, I'd just find someone else to have fun with."
He frowned. "I wouldn't joke with me that way, I will never let you out of my sight again."
I gave him a small smile as I leaned over into his chest. "Sorry, I forget you're super possessive."
"It's fine princess."
"Hey Sam, uhm sorry about the other day I kind of misunderstood." I looked up from the crook of Axel's neck to see Emma and Jason standing on the otherside of Axel.
Oh, hell.
I glanced behind me at Tyler who looked amused. "Asshole."
"What?" Emma asked, and I realized I had said that outloud.
"Not you, I was talking about my brother. Oh, and it's fine I know what it must have looked like I was almost naked in his room." I felt Axel tense at my words, and I looked over to see him staring at me with narrowed eyes.
Shit.
"Jason explained everything to me." I glanced towards Jason to see him looking in a completely different direction, purposely avoiding my gaze.
I also got the impression that it was Emma's idea for them to sit near us.
Maybe Tyler was right . . .
"Oh, okay." I said with a polite smile as she sat down next to Axel who was currently burning a hole in the side of my face.
"Uh, I'll see you later Sam." He said as he moved to stand up a few minutes later, and I frowned remembering the last time he had said.
"Why are you leaving? What's wrong?" I asked curiously as he let go of my hand, and shook his head.
"Nothing, I'll see you later." He lied, and I narrowed my eyes in anger.
"Fine, walk away because that's how you solve problems right?" I muttered, and he opened his mouth to say something before he shook his head, and made his way past the people sitting.
I watched him walk from the auditorium in anger.
Why can't he ever just talk? The last time he had done that he went, and almost slept with Jenna.
I thought we were getting along fine.
I ignored the way Claire, Tyler, Jason, and Emma were all looking at me the rest of the assembly, and found myself walking out ahead of them.
"What was that about?" I jumped slightly at the sound of a voice in my ear, and found myself surprised by the person I found leaned against the wall just outside of the doors.
"Ryder?" I said slowly, and he stared at me.
"What's wrong beautiful? Trouble in paradise without me?" He asked, and I bit down on my lips aware of all of the eyes on my face still.
I wish they would be good friends, and look away.
"What do you want Ryder?" I questioned as I wondered why he suddenly was speaking to me.
"I want to know why you chose my brother over me, or why your speaking to him, but you continued to act as if I don't exist." He stated, and I found myself baffled.
He chose now to confront me.
"You seemed happy, I didn't want to bother you." I said as I ran a hand through my hair becoming frustrated.
"Oh, so I see you didn't run off to cheat on her . . . again." Ryder suddenly said, and I looked up confused only to see him staring beside me.
Turning around I spotted a pissed Axel.
"I thought I told you to stay away from her." Axel snarled, and I barely had time to move out of the way as Ryder straightened up shoving Axel.
"You don't get to decide who I stay away from, and besides she wasn't complaining when I was the one in her bed." Ryder threw out, and I stared at him with my jaw onthe floor.
Did he really just say that?
"Or when she spent our birthday with me and not you. I think it's pretty obvious who's winning here brother." Ryder said smirking as Axel glared at me, and looked back at Axel with pure hatred.
"Fuck you." I had never seen Axel so mad in my entire life when he made his way through the people who had gathered, and I turned to Ryder who seemed happy.
"So now that he's out of the way . . ." He trailed off as he reached out for me, and I couldn't stop myself from slapping him.
"Go screw yourself Ryder! I'm not a fucking trophy! You're a fucking manipulating jerk!" I yelled as I put as much distance as I could between us, and turned running after Axel.
I honestly could not believe what Ryder had just done, but I guess Axel was right about him.
I was nothing, but a competition to him.
