Chapter Sixteen: Happy Birthday

I paced back and forth in my room completely aware of his eyes following, and the annoying smirk on his lips as he did so.

He couldn't be serious . . . could he?

I feel terrible.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I questioned as I turned to face him my eyes wandering around his face.

His lips are beautiful . . .

Wow did I really just think that?

He shrugged as he stood up from my bed eyeing me cautiously as he stepped towards me. "It's not a big deal Sam, I don't exactly celebrate my birthday neither does Axel."

I stared at him with narrowed eyes, and a small smile on my face. "Why?"

"It doesn't matter why . . . we just don't." He replied his voice and face becoming hard.

I stared at him the small smile on my face dropping, "Okay."

Walking over to my closet I pulled out a t-shirt, and a  pair of sweatpants along with some underclothes.

"I'm going to go take a shower, I'll be back." I stated as I walked past him avoiding his eyes, but didn't make it far because he took hold of my wrist.

"Wait, I didn't mean to get angry, it's just . . . I'm sorry." He said, and the last part came out so softly I barely heard it.

Putting a small faux smile on my face I turned to look at him. "It's fine, I understand . . . you don't want to talk about, you don't trust me yet."

He furrowed his brow confusion written on his face. "It's not that I don't trust you Samantha it's one of  the worst days of the year for me, and I'd rather just forget it existed."

I pressed my lips together, and nodded. "I'll be back."

Later that night, I woke up to the sound of someone crying, and at first I had thought it was just my imagination but I quickly realized where the noise was coming from.

Glancing down beside my bed I spot Ryder's shaking form, and realized he was asleep but I could tell he was crying still.

"Ryder wakeup." I said as I stepped over him, and crouched next to him. "Hey."

His eyes opened, and immediately his eyes locked onto me. "Can I lay next to you?"

He stared at me confused for a moment, and without waiting for an answer I layed down next to him with a small amount of space between our bodies.

I stared at him silently, and he reached up wiping his face clear of any remaining tears. "I won't pressure you into telling me what happened, but I just want you to know that you can always tell me what's wrong, I won't judge you Ryder."

"I know." He stated so quietly that if we weren't so close that I could feel his body heat, I wouldn't have heard it.

When I woke up the next morning I was in a very uncomfortable position pinned beneath a large body. Glancing to my left I saw that Ryder was sleeping peacefully his hair in a disarray on his head making him look ruggedly handsome.

How did we end up laying like this?

Glancing towards my window I saw that it was becoming daylight, and depending on what time it is that means my brother will be coming in here to wake me up any minute now for school.

"Ryder wake up." I said quietly as I shook him, and he mumbled something as he shifted his weight over covering me evenmore, and my heart beat sped up as I felt his bare chest against my stomach where my shirt had rose up.

"Ryder we have school, and my brother will be in here any minute. Wake up . . ." I shook him several times, and his eyes shot open immediately locking with mine causing last nights memory of him crying to come back to my mind.

He moved off of me allowing me to stand up, and pull my shirt down.

        "Sorry for crushing you."

"Oh no it's totally fine." I said awkwardly as a light blush spread acroos my cheeks.

I ignored his eyes following my every move as I walked towards my door, and locked it just as the door knob began to turn.

"Sam wake up!" I heard Tylers voice call for the other side of the door, and I sighed in relief.

"I'm already awake, you don't have to drive me to school today I've got my own ride." I called turning around to face Ryder with a smile of mischieve on my face as I looked him up and down.

Walking to my closet I turned back towards Ryder. "Turn your head."

He chuckled as he did so, and I quickly removed my shirt, sweat pants, and under clothes all the while making sure he kept his head turned.

"Don't peek." I said as I slid into my underclothes, and pulled on a pair of ripped acid washed jeans and a t-shirt.

I didn't have time to take a shower, I had somewhere I wanted to be within the next fifteen minutes.

"Hurry up and get dressed Ryder . . . we've got somewhere we need to be." I said as I turned to face him sliding into my converse.

"I'm not going to school today Sam." He stated as he hesitantly turned around to face me his eyes still closed.

"You can look now, and who said anything about school?" I said as I straightened up, and he looked at me quizzically.

"Where exactly are you going then Sammie?" He questioned as he stood there in all of his shirtless glory.

He was seriously driving my mind to the brink of sanity.

I'm such an idiot for even allowing myself to be placed in between these two brothers, but for some strange reason I couldn't help but to be attracted to both of them.

"It's not where am I going it's where are we going? And I figured that since you don't like celebrating your birthday we can celebrate it today instead and call it your day after birthday celebration." I said slowly watching his face to see if he'd get angry or upset with me.

Ryder tilted his head as he studied my face with a strange look in his eyes. "Your sort of amazing, did you know that?"

I smiled brightly, and shrugged. "I kind of figured. Come on hurry up and get dressed we need to be there in about ten minutes."
