Alex walked through the doorway towards me as Josh ran out to the hallway. Alex had that heart melting smile on as he stopped in front of me.

"Hey, did he hurt you?" He asked. He seemed curious and alerted like Josh had just seriously hurt me, and like I was Alex's property.

"I'm fine."

"Okay. Well I was just going to the garden for a walk. Would you like to join me? You must have a ton of questions rambling about in your head."

"Um," I looked around me to see if anyone else was in the room with us. No one was. "Sure." I said with a smile.

"Wonderful." He said as he reached for my hand. I wasn't sure if I should take his hand and risk walking with him. Alone. Josh's words rang through my head. Because I've seen what he does. And it's not pretty. I knew that I was new here and that it shouldn't be that bad just going for a walk through the garden. It's not like he could just kill me, they still needed to see if I would transition. I took his hand and he led me through the hallway and out another wooden door to the outside.

We walked in silence on a rocky, pebble path which eventually brought us to a beautiful garden. There was a variety of flowers that lined the pathway. Tall shrubs formed a maze towards the middle of the garden. There where a few stone benches here and there spread throughout the masterpiece. The sweet smell of flowers engulfed my lungs. I thought I was in heaven.

"This is where I come to clear my mind." Alex said, breaking the silence.

I nodded, not knowing what to say.

"If you have any questions, feel free to ask." We were now entering the large maze. Roses intertwined through the shrubs and bushes along the pathway that crisscrossed and what not.

"Um, ok. What was transformation exactly?"

"You had to transform for the first time. If you made it, which you did, you would be a vampire, which you are. But, if you dont drink a human's blood by tonight, you will be dead also, but there is another possibility. You passed the first step, now we need to see if you can pass the second one. We need to see if you will take the blood or not." Alex explained.

"And what happens if I don't take the blood?" I froze after I processed what I just said. If I don't. There was that if again. The potential that I could die or live. Being completely dead or alive but dead.

"Then you could die. But we could also go to the pack, if they let us, and you could transform into a hybrid if you survive. Hybrids are of one bite vampire and one bite werewolf. But it is very rare if you actually make it to the hybrid stage. It's less than a 5 percent chance of making it through the transformation. It all depends on your body and how strong it is." He explained.

I let the words sink through. I was scared, yet again. Why was I chosen to go through this? Why couldn't someone else?

"You are probably shocked. Right?" He said.

"Yeah, but why? Why was I chosen out of millions of other people who could have done this?" I asked.

I felt warm tears running down my face as we kept walking. Taking turns every 30 feet. Niagara Falls came rushing down. Alex stopped me, then stood in front of me. He took his hand, lifted my chin so my sobbing eyes met his icy blue ones. His thumb lightly wiped my tears and he stared into my eyes. The stare was like an unbreakable eye contact that I couldn't escape.

"It's okay. You will get through this." He said calmly. My slow heart beat jumped as Alex pulled me into his arms and hugged me gently. I felt safe. Like he would protect me. But as I remembered Josh's words, I suddenly felt uncomfortable. That safe feeling left, and was filled with uncomfort. I pulled away.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

"It's nothing." I said, sniffling.

Alex gave me a questioned look as he returned to my side. We started to walk again. I knew that he knew something was wrong. And that something had to do with Josh and what he said. Josh scared me in a way that I couldn't explain. Its like he meant to scare me for a reason.

"So, who turned me?" I asked, my voice returning to normal.

He looked at me from my side. Our eyes locked and it felt like he was going to say something. But silence filled the air as the wind started to pick up.

"We should head inside before the sun sets to make sure you will make it until morning." He said breaking the silence.

I nodded and we left the garden, back into the old, stone mansion.
