Frisk POV:

I opened my eyes slowly, a wave of confusion hitting me immediately. I felt... sad? No, this isn't how it was supposed to be. I wasn't supposed to be feeling anything, I was supposed to be a gray. I sat up, and rubbed the sleep from my eyes.

"Frisk?" I jumped, and looked to my side. A mess of pillows and blankets lay on the floor next to my bed. Sans sat on top of the pile, looking at me with concern. He then seemed to realized what the situation looked like, and explained.

"I uh... ya know, since you were going to turn into a gray tonight, I just thought maybe I should be here, if case you needed anything. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." I turned away, and smiled, before turning back to Sans. "What's wrong?" He questioned, standing from where he was. "I still feel emotions, I don't know what's going on. Shouldn't I be a gray by now?"

"Show me your soul. I think I know what's going on." I did as instructed, and saw my soul was fully gray, except for a little pool of determination at the very bottom, barley even noticeable. Sans studied the soul for a moment, before nodding his head. "You see that tiny bit of determination?" I bobbed my head up and down, and Sans continued explaining.

"That little determination- at least I think- is why you're not a gray. It's determined to keep your soul trait, rather then becoming a gray." I looked up at him, and back at the soul. "How do you know all this?" Sans shifted from one foot to another and smirked. "Lucky guess?" I let out a raspy chuckle, and moved towards Sans, hugging him. "Thank you. Thank you for being there when nobody else would." He seemed shocked at first, but eventually gave in and hugged me back. "Anytime, kiddo."

Frisk POV:

I tied my hair back, and tried to ignore the way Flowey had been looking at me. When we arrived back at Sans' and Papyrus' old house, Flowey had been there. He had explained how he had been looking for me. I felt incredibly bad for leaving Flowey with no explanation. The moment Sans had arrived at the lab, I sort of forgot Flowey had been helping me at all.

At the moment, Sans was looking over the blueprints with much concentration, leaning over the countertop. We were going to get Chara back. Sans finally looked at me, walked over, and patted my back. "You're pretty smart, huh? You got the right blueprint. Good job, bud." I laughed nervously, and Sans held out his hand.

"Let's head to the lab. The machine is there, and we can try and fix it, though I haven't seen that thing in years." We teleported, and Sans went straight to work. It was almost as if he had done this before, going from place to place, screwing this there, putting this here.

I looked over to Flowey, who looked almost as shocked as me. "Did you know he could do that?" I whispered to Flowey. Sans was so engulfed in his work he didn't even notice me talking. "Nope. Never before, I'm just as surprised as you are." Sans waved me over. I repeated what Sans had done, and waved Flowey over, to which he just crossed his leaf-arms and pouted.

"Could you press this big button for me when I say so? And, hold that door open so it doesn't close on me. If it does, we're in big trouble." I nodded, and looked down at the little gadget Sans had handed me. The was buttons all over, in no particular order, but with one larger then the others in the middle of the small tablet. There were words all over the place, in the same strange language as the blueprints, with pictures of no meaning on each of the buttons.

Sans moved inside of the machine, while I held open the huge, thick door for him. He held up his thumb in the air, and I pressed the button he had told me to press. It had what looked to be... air, possibly? The machine seemed to awaken, casting a large screeching noise.

I went to instinctively hold my hands to my ears, but held back, so the door wouldn't shut on Sans. Finally, the noise quieted down and Sans appeared from the machine. He scratched his head, and chuckled. "We definitely have a LOT of work to do."
