"Don't be sad when this ends, it'll be worth it."
~~~~~~~~Waking up, I didn't know what to do. What do I say to my dad in the morning? It's still so weird to say that.
Dad.
He's always been more in the absent side. But I can't be with mom. Not now.
Stepping out of the room, I quickly took a shower and put on clothes for the day. Just a simple dark grey long sleeve school shirt from my old school and light grey sweat pants and my low top black converse.
"Good morning." I said to dad, looking inside the fridge as if food was going to magically appear there as compared to yesterday.
"Right." Dad said from behind me. "I need to do groceries."
I let out a soft laugh and turned around, "it's all good. I'll just starve."
"No! You don't have to-"
"It's a joke dad, I'll stop somewhere on the way to school." I said realizing he's not used to my humor.
"I'll give you money-"
"You don't have to." I said shrugging my shoulders and watched as he handed me twenty dollars. "I'm going to Dunkin', not the mall."
He shrugged and handed it to me. Nodding my head I smiled awkwardly and took the money. "Thank you."
"Yeah no problem." He awkwardly replied and looked at the clock. I swear if he says, "well if you look at the time, I have to get to work." And he said it.
Nodding my head I looked up at him in question. Does he want me to hug him?
Stepping closer to him, I gave him a loose hug and quickly pulled away. "Great. Have a good day?"
"You too, lil pal." He said like when I was a little kid. Smiling slightly I nodded my head.
"You too, big pal." I said and knew it made him happy by his cheeky little face. He's a tall man, standing at 6 foot and is a little bit more than a bit overweight.
"Okay and Athena," he said as he walked out the door, "I'm happy you're staying with me. Even if it's for a little."
I'm not sure to cry or smile.
Smiling I hugged him again, tighter. "Me too."
Stepping away, he left the house and I quickly got my bag, brushed my teeth, and left to get some Dunkin' before school.
Heading into the administration building, it was pretty busy, there was a line. Finally it was my turn and way past the tardy bell. With a sigh, I stepped up and smiled softly at the woman who did not return the gesture.
"Yes?" She asked waiting for me to say something.
"Right, I'm new." I said not knowing what else to say.
"Hi new, I'm Ms. Evelyn." She dryly said and looked back up at me waiting. "Well, what's your name?"
"Athena Andrews." I said leaning against the ledge and watched as she typed up my name. She sighed and looked at the printer, we both watched as it printed out two separate papers.
She handed them both to me and fake smiled. "Have a good day."
"You too." I said taking the papers from her and looked down at them. One was my schedule and the other one was a map to the school with all the school rules.
First period was AP Literature. Makes sense, I took AP Comp in my old school in New York. It says it was in building six?
Georgia schools are a lot more open than the ones in New York and spread across rather than up and down. This school has a whole third floor.
