Sitting on the couch next to dad, we watched a football game. Well, he asked if I wanted to watch tv with him and I'm done with homework, so I said yes. But I'm not exactly sure how to tell him I don't like football like that.
Well, I like football like watching it is cool. But he's trying to get me into it by saying the players names and all these technical terms. But I don't know how to break it to him that I'm just not that into football.
Now if it was soccer or baseball, that's another story.
"Interesting right?" He asked after going on a tangent about some player. I smiled at him and nodded my head, thinking that'd be enough to convince him. "You don't like football do you?"
I looked at him surprised at how so many people have been able to read me. Well him and Ryder.
"It's not that! I've just never really watched it to learn. I like soccer and baseball." I admitted with a small smile. "I'm sorry."
"No! It's okay, we can watch old soccer games." He suggested reaching for the remote.
"No! It's okay, dad. I promise." I said grabbing the remote before he could get it and eat the chips. We were pigging out. I've never really done this with mom. She'd call me fat and then tell me to clean the house.
"What do you want to watch?" He asked grabbing the remote from my hands and began to search through the channels. "There's back to the future."
"Too confusing." I said shaking my head and watched as he looked at me with so much hurt and betrayal.
"What? McFly!" He exclaimed and shook his head in defeat. "Bad Boys."
"Mom used to love that movie." I said in disgust and watched as he laughed at my reaction.
"She really did." He said with a tired sigh. "They have the notebook."
"Yes!" I exclaimed jokingly and watched as he looked at me with disgust like I was mom. "I'm kidding. Well I like the movie, just when I'm sad and I'm not trying to be sad tonight."
He nodded his head and ruffled my hair. "I was about to disown you."
"Not again!" I joked and saw the most horrified face my dad could make. "I'm kidding! Jokes! Dark humor!"
"Right. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to laugh or not." He sheepishly said. "At least we're both away from that woman."
"You should have come to rescue me sooner." I sighed and pointed at the movie Shark boy and Lava girl. He played it and nodded his head.
"Your mom wouldn't let me and well, you know your mother. She's a monster. But I really did try, but I almost got arrested." He casually said as if that isn't brand new piece of information.
"What?" I asked turning towards him. He looked at me confused.
"She never told you?"
"Max she said was that you didn't want me." I said in a duh voice. "This is mom we're talking about."
"Well, you were only a baby at the time and I knew I didn't want you with her, so I took you. But then she tried to turn it into kidnapping. So when the police found me and you, they arrested me and wouldn't listen to me when I said that your mother is crazy and I tried to tell them. But you know how that story ends. Is this the one with George Lopez?"
"You tried to get me?" I pushed. He nodded his head and looked down at his fingers.
"Many times. But then they threatened to give me a restraining order and I didn't want to risk losing you completely. So I tried to write you letters and send birthday and Christmas gifts, but from the looks of it, I'm guessing you never got them?"
