It was Anri and I's first day of school on the chilly Monday morning. The gang slept over from Friday to Saturday, but had to leave to take care of some "wolf business", whatever that means. So Anri stayed and we both cleaned the house on Saturday afternoon. Then on Sunday we finished all the schoolwork that they brought us, so that we won't be behind, even though we've been out of school for a week.

Dad offered to drive us, but we said that the bus is okay. With that he kissed us both on the forehead and sent us off with premade lunch. I think he's just worried that we're both going to have a mental breakdown at school or something.

"I never had a premade lunch before or had someone kiss my forehead that aren't people I've hooked up with." Anri said already eating the lunch dad made. I rolled my eyes and closed the container so there would be some left for lunch.

"Me neither." I admitted looking out the window. "Mom wasn't one for cooking and she didn't like to fill out paperwork because it apparently took too long, so I'd starve throughout middle school until I learned to fill out the paperwork myself in high school."

Anri nodded his head and stole a bite of food causing me to roll my eyes. "Same with me, except I learned to do it in like eighth grade. They also just didn't like me." He looked around to make sure no one was listening. "It's honestly a wolf thing too, like your human parents are either one of three things. Super overprotective like Juliana and Eugene's parents, there's the absent parents which are Khalil and Roslyn, and finally the abusive parents that are usually just scared of their kids like Kian and mine's family. Khalil's brother is also part of the pack but lives with his mate and a few others from the pack."

"What about Ryder?" I asked when I noticed he wasn't talking anymore.

"His parents are wolves, well one wolf and one human, so it's a bit different." He said watching Kian enter the bus and sit down next to us.

"What are we talking about?" Kian asked turning around to face us.

"Parents." I responded and nudged Anri. "Finish what you're saying."

"Oh, just that Ryder's parents are complicated since his parents are actually wolves too."

Kian rolled his eyes and turned towards me. "He left out the part where some parents just abandon their kids and force them to get adapted type of thing, hence why some of us have human parents. Other reasons why are because the gene is a recessive gene, so there's the off chance that the kids come out wolves too. Like my sister isn't a wolf, but my brother is and is in the same pack as Ryder's dad."

"Why didn't he leave the pack too?" I asked when we got to the school. Kian gave me a look to stop talking and Anri whispered into my ear, "we'll talk about it later."

Stepping off the bus, Ryder and Eugene were waiting by the entrance of the school for us. Ryder smiled when he saw me, but continued to talk to Eugene, facing me the whole way. By the time I came to his side, he wrapped an arm around my shoulder and brought me to his chest.

"Good morning." He said waiting for me to let go first before letting go. He smells so good today. Looking up into his eyes, I wondered about his past. Like why did he leave his dad? They're alluding to the fact that the dad is abusive, but why? Why is the dad abusive?

That's probably a dumb question, like why was mom abusive? Just because she was. It's just a fact type of thing I guess.

"Good morning." I replied when I realize I've just been staring at him this whole time. I could feel the stares of the people from the school, it is a small town after all.

It feels like in Twilight when Bella finally started to hang out with the Colin's and people were looking at her. But instead of vampires, they're werewolves and much less awkward. And more diverse.
