A/N These two character the protagonist meets are from an anime called Fairy Tail. They will (most likely) only show up here so don't worry the rest of the story is in the Harry Potter universe! You don't need to know anything about Fairy Tail or these 2 characters, the reason I added them is because Lucy will learn some magic from them which is kind of important for this book!
The pic above is what the two boys Lucy encounters look like ;)
I hope you enjoy :)
I walked down the stairs after my foster father had called my name in an annoyed tone.
"What the hell is this? Some kind of prank?" He spat as he held up a letter when I entered the kitchen.
"I don't know what that is father I'm sorry." I tried to calm him but it was no use. He lost his temper very quickly and whenever I tried to argue back or defend myself for anything he would beat me. I learned very quickly that the best thing to do is apologise when it comes to these kind of situations.
"You think this is funny? Don't lie to me you little brat!" Usually after I apologise and made it seem like he is right and I am wrong he leaves me alone, but not today.
He got up and growled at me while ripping this mystery letter up in front of my eyes. Once I saw the multiple empty beer bottles on the kitchen counter it all made sense, he was drunk. When he drinks he becomes even more aggressive than usual.
Just then my foster mother walked in.
"What is going on here?" She asked, clearly annoyed while looking at the ripped up pieces of paper scattered on the ground.
"Go on Lucy, tell her what you did" My foster father sneered.
"I didn't do anything." I tried to reason but it was to no avail. My foster father grabbed a bottle and threw it at me. I was able to duck just in time but while it shattered against the wall a part of glass sliced open my cheek. Fresh blood dripped down onto the tiles and with a sigh my foster mother grabbed me by the arm and dragged me to the front door.
"You ruined my kitchen floor with your blood, come back when you decided to stop being such a disturbance to this household." She said coldly and shoved me out the door. I hit the concrete hard and cried out in pain, that is definitely going to leave a nasty bruise.
"Shut up Lucy!" I heard my foster fathers voice through the window that was open upstairs.
I was so incredibly angry. Almost every day they would torment me, force me to cook and clean, get mad at things I have no control over and just in general treat me like garbage.
I stared angrily at the window while visualising all the horrible things these people have done to me. The only reason they decided to take me in is because of the money they get for it.
Suddenly something happened that has occurred quite often recently. Whenever I am mad, I somehow can break things with my mind. I've never been able to explain it, but just yesterday when my foster mother yelled at me for apparently doing something that actually my foster father had done, I broke the glass in a picture frame when she had left the room. And now all of a sudden the glass in the window broke into a million pieces.
"You are in so much trouble for this young lady I'm gonna kill you!" I cursed under my breath as I heard him race down the stares and storm through the front door.
Fortunately for me I was a fast runner, so I sprinted away as quickly as I could as I saw him chase after me.
He was stumbling from side to side because of the alcohol and soon enough I lost him.
Just to make sure he really wouldn't find me I sprinted into the woods near our house, I was looking behind me the whole time to see if he might still be after me when I suddenly bumped into someone.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry." I apologised and looked up at the tall man in front of me.
He looked very strange, like he didn't belong here. His hair was black and covering half of his face, he was wearing a cape and underneath it looked like he was wearing some sort of armour.
"Hey don't worry about it, what were you running away from anyway?" I heard another voice and saw there was another strange looking man standing there. This one had blonde hair, a scar over his eye and was wearing a cropped top with a sleeveless fur jacket over it.
"I-um.." It was hard for me to find the right words to say. "Someone was chasing me." I said as I stood up with the help of the blonde guy.
"Well duh, who was it? A monster?" I cocked an eyebrow at him, of course it wouldn't be a monster.
"No it was my foster father." I decided it wouldn't matter if I told him, not like they could do anything about my situation anyway.
"Did he do this to you?" The black haired guy finally spoke up as he inspected the cut on my cheek.
"Well...kind of. He threw a bottle against a wall and the glass cut me" I explained.
"I see. Well, I'm Sting and this is Rogue." The blonde guy introduced himself.
"I'm Lucy." I said while trying to smile. To be honest these two were giving off a very strange vibe.
"Someone I know has the same name! How funny." Sting grinned, I could tell he was trying to cheer me up.
"Well, since you are the first person we encountered here is it alright if we ask you a few questions?" Rogue asked, his voice was a lot deeper than Stings.
"Umm sure." I said, still unsure of what was going on.
"You see, we aren't from here. We are from a place called Fiore and Rogue and I are in a guild together there. Recently another wizard from our guild discovered a type of magic that allows us to travel to a different universe. We are the first to try this out and now we landed here. So, what kind of magic do you use? What kind of creatures exist here?" Sting asked with a curious look.
I was really confused. Were these guys trying to prank me?
I didn't respond so Rogue said "I can sense some magic energy coming from you, but you seem unaware of it. Tell me, have you ever been able to do things you can't explain?"
I was about to tell them sorry and leave, but when Rogue asked that last question I remembered all the times I broke things without even touching them.
I nodded carefully and he chuckled slightly. "I guess we need to fill you in on some things"
Sting and Rogue spent the next hour explaining about their world. I was fascinated by everything they talked about. Then I told them about my world and how I never knew that wizards existed let alone magic at all. I also told them about my abusive foster parents, something told me I could trust them.
