Lucy's POV
It was Halloween night and we were enjoying a halloween-themed feast when my Defence against the Dark Arts professor burst through the door, interrupting our meal with his terrified scream.
"Troll in the dungeon!" He yelled before collapsing onto the ground.
The whole room erupted in screams. Jennie and I exchanged a few confused glances while looking at the other houses tables where we saw everyone freaking out.
"We should be the ones worried, seeing that our dorm is the one in the dungeons." I rolled my eyes and Jennie giggled, agreeing with me.
Luckily Dumbledore silenced the room quickly and told everyone to calmly follow their prefects back to their dorms.
We had to be extra careful because apparently the troll was in the dungeons where our common room was. Right before entering I noticed Severus racing along the hallway and he seemed to be limping a little.
I decided to quietly follow after him, hoping nobody notice that I removed myself from the crowd of Slytherins that were filing into the common room.
I sneakily trailed behind him until I realised where he was going, to the girls bathroom. In the distance I saw some other Professors also rushing to that area. 'What could be going on there?' I wondered.
As we reached the bathroom I was too focused on the massive troll that was on the ground to notice that I bumped right into Severus. He looked at me with wide eyes, then back at the troll and then back at me again, protectively putting an arm out in front of me. He either did this to protect me because at this point we both had not realised the troll was unconscious, or he did it so the other Professors would not notice I was there.
"Explain yourselves, both of you!" Mcgonagall announced out of breath to the 3 Gryffindors that were standing next to the troll. It was my friends.
From where I was standing all I could make out was that the bathroom was a wreck and I saw Hermione step forward.
"It was my fault." She confessed, though something told me she was only saying that to cover up for the boys.
Mcgonagall ended up taking 5 points from Gryffindor but then awarding another 5 for Ron and Harry for "sheer dumb luck" to put it in her words.
As the Professors turned around to exit the bathroom area, Severus put himself in front of me and extended his cape a little to the side to make sure I was not visible to anyone.
After he made sure my three friends were also out of the room, he immediately turned to face me with a stern look and placed both hands on my shoulders.
"What were you thinking? You could have gotten seriously injured." He snapped.
My body stiffened a little "I'm sorry, on my way to my common room I saw you limping and heading somewhere. I was worried so I followed you." I explained while looking to the ground.
When I looked back up his face relaxed a little. "Head back to your dormitory alright, come see me tomorrow before breakfast."
With that, he led me back down to the dungeons in silence before disappearing back up the stairs.
The next morning I was preparing for getting scolded as I knocked at Severus door at 7:30am.
He opened the door to his chambers and asked me to take a seat at the kitchen table.
"Listen, for a while now I have been very weary of Professor Quirrell." He started. I was confused, was he not mad at me?
"I suspect that he might have actually led the troll into Hogwarts in the first place. I have been following his every step the past few days and he is acting very suspicious, so when I saw him going up the stairs I knew I had to go after him to make sure he was not up to something again."
I must have still had a puzzled look on my face because Severus added "Now don't get me wrong I am still not pleased with you that you came chasing after me, but I understand your intentions were concerning my safety which I appreciate but I hope in the future you do not do such a thing again."
I let out a heavy breath, I was ready for Severus to yell at me but this was nothing compared to the punishments I used to get in the past from Foster parents.
"The reason I am telling you about my suspicions of Quirrell is because one of your friends happened to see the injury on my leg and I fear he is suspecting that I am the one who is up to something."
"How did you get that injury?" I asked.
He sighed "I really don't want to get you involved in this, but I guess it can't be helped. There is something very valuable and powerful hidden in the castle at this very moment that I worry Quirrell is after."
I signalled to Severus to keep talking by nodding quickly. "Well, I saw him heading to a place where a beast is guarding the entrance of the region that holds this item. I went to check if he had attempted to pass the beast but in my attempt to escape when I saw he had not yet reached this area I was bitten by it."
Concerned I stood up and went to examine his leg, it had a bandage wrapped around it but I could tell through the thin fabric that there was a nasty wound underneath.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
"You need to stop worrying about me." He chuckled "I'm alright the wound is healing."
"Now all I ask of you is try and convince Potter somehow that I am not up to something, without revealing my concern for Quirrell's actions."
He scowled "That boy is definitely going to think I am forging some evil plan or something."
Severus was right, the next day when my friends and I were hanging out in the library Harry accused my father of trying to steal something called the 'Philosophers stone'.
