I looked at myself in the mirror, feeling like a completely different person.
This wasn't me, but somehow, it was.
I was wearing my mom's wedding dress.
My makeup was done differently too. It was natural with a shimmery soft pink lid. It was a look my mom loves. My hair was left untouched. I wasn't going to mess with the curls, because they were her curls.
I grabbed my clutch, put on my shoes, and walked out to the living room where Amukta, Atlas, Michael, and Daniyal were waiting for me.
Amukta was wearing a gorgeous light blue sheer lace dress with a beaded bodice. She looked stunning.
Michael was wearing a red tie with his tux. Daniyal was wearing a black tie with his tux, and Atlas was wearing an all black tux.
"Are you guys ready?" Michael asked and I didn't respond.
"She's gonna love it, babe," Amukta reassured me.
"Let's go," I said and we got into the car.
We were taking Michael's SUV. The ride to the hospital was a comfortable silence. Rex Orange County was playing in the back.
We got to the hospital and I felt kind of weird with the looks we were getting, being all dressed up, but there were other students there in their prom clothes too, making me feel a little more comfortable.
We got to my mom's room and I just stood there. My hand was on the doorknob, and I had frozen.
She could either be really happy, or really upset, there was no in between, and all I could do was hope for her to be happy.
I took my hand off the nob, and I knocked instead.
"Come in," my mother said and I twisted the doorknob and walked in. Her eyes went wide with shock.
"Is it too much? I can change if you want. I can find something somewhere," I said freaking out.
"You look beautiful." I looked at her to see tears blurring out her eyes and starting to fall down gently sliding down her cheeks before she wiped them off. "Wow, I was not expecting this. I was expecting something a bit more... sexy."
