"Anaya, how are you?" Dr. Khan asked my mom.

"I'm good, how are you?"

"I'm good, thanks for asking. You're vitals are alright, considering you are a liver cancer patient. Now, do you understand why your daughter scheduled for an appointment today?"

"I didn't know my daughter asked for the appointment," she said giving me a look.

I'm in big trouble.

"Well, this is regarding your alcohol abuse. You cannot be drinking while doing chemo."

"I'm sure a drink or two would not make a difference," my mom said laughing it off.

"From what I've heard it's not a drink or two. Currently, you have one of three options, which ever you choose. I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just showing you some options. You can continue to drink and discontinue chemo, which will kill you much sooner than you anticipated. You can act like this never happened and drink while doing chemo, and it will still kill you sooner than you want, and you can be hospitalized earlier, and this will give you more time to live."

"Can I not just stop drinking?"  she asked and Dr. Khan looked over at me.

"What are your thoughts on this Arabella," he said and my mom went to interrupt, but was cut off. "I'm asking her because she's taking care of you. It's important for me to assess the situation. Certain questions can only be answered by people close to you. In this case, the only person I can ask is your daughter."

"I'm not sure if she can stop. We tried already and of it had worked, we wouldn't be here today," I said.

I wanted to trust my mom I really did, but I just couldn't. I was too scared. It was an all of nothing kind of moment. I couldn't kind of trust her or maybe trust her.

"Anaya, it's up to you now," he said.

"How long do I have to make this decision?"

"I'll give you a week," he said.

The car ride home was quiet. I didn't want to be home right now.

Michaellll, can I come over right now?

Sure, but I'm with Atlas and Daniyal right now.

nvm then

You can still come.

It's fine, I don't wanna intrude

Nah, you'll be fine, we're just playing video games.

I'll be there in half an hour

Cool

I put my phone away.

"Mom, I'm going to work on chem at my friends house," I said and she nodded without looked at me.

"Why the fuck can't you just let me live? I'm sorry, I got drunk, but are you kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me?"

"Mom, I'm scared. I am doing what's best for you, while you go and try to die. I'm the one trying to get your act together, work, and do school. I'm the one who's gonna be left with almost nothing. I know you're dying and I know it's really hard for you to accept, but can you at least try.  I am really struggling trying to make up for the both of us."
