this is going to be a short chapter:)
This was also, the original chapter 45 before the rewrite. We got into the BMW and drove off.
Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine. Gotta gotta be down because I want it all.
"Again?" I asked Atlas.
"Hell yes, it's a long drive, there will be more songs than this," he said.
It started out with a kiss how did it end up like this? It was only a kiss (it was only a kiss).
We yelled out the lyrics to the song as we drove on the highway. And I just can't look it's killing me. And taking control!
"JEALOUSY TURNING SAINTS INTO THE SEA!" We yelled out together.
The windows were down and it was windy outside. My hair flew around and I pulled it back into a low ponytail.
It was a long drive full of upbeat songs and yelling.
Atlas took a turn into a parking lot.
"Let's get tattoos," was all he said and we got out of the car.
We walked into the place, and a man a few years older than us was standing there.
"Tattoos? Piercings?" he asked us.
"Tattoos," I responded.
"Matching couple tattoos? You guys seem young."
"No. We want tattoos but not matching tattoos," Atlas said. It was way too early for that. Way to early.
"Alright, once you have exactly what you want, let me know."
I took out my wallet to see exactly how much money I had. Atlas snatched it out of my hands.
"Dude, what the hell!"
"That party was expensive. I'm paying for this."
"What, why? No."
"I said so."
"You owe me French fries, a pair of panties, and a nice blouse. I don't want any of that anymore. I'll pay for my tattoos instead."
"I'll pay for your biggest tattoo, and I'm not arguing with you on this."
"Fine! You're paying for my biggest tattoo and that's it."
I wanted the rose over the area where my liver would be, right under my breasts. I wanted a football on the back of my left ear. I wanted the easel near my other ankle, symmetrical to the sunflower.
I knew what I wanted.
Maybe, sometimes I'm not so indecisive.
Sometimes I am.
I know what I want, and it's okay for me to not know what I want, because I can figure it out.
"What are you gonna get?" I asked Atlas.
"I don't know."
"How can I help?"
"I want to do something related to Carli, but I don't know what."
"What are things she liked? Her birthday? Her favorite sport? Her name? Something she taught you?"
"She loved the black butterflies with blue pigments on them, Atala butterflies. She told me it was the only true blue pigmentation in nature and that's everything else was an illusion, including my eyes. She told me to be that kind blue, real. She told me to be real. I want that."
"Where?"
"Somewhere I can see it a lot. My arm?"
"Go ahead."
"Alright, both of you, these are consent papers and all the legal shit. This is gonna sting a bit. Who's up first?" I looked over at Atlas, who was looking at me.
"I can go first." I explained to him what I wanted and where.
"Alright, we can start with the rose then, take off your shirt."
I quickly unbuttoned my shirt and sat on the chair. I felt the guy's hands on me. I looked over at Atlas who was death staring the hands. He looked up at me and his face slightly softened.
Al my tattoos hurt a bit, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle.
When I was done, I had both of my parents with me. They had been drawn into my skin, and weren't ever going to leave.
Permanent.
I watched Atlas get his tattoo. It was a beautiful Atala butterfly.
"That was."
"An experience," he finished as we got into the car.
"It was nice. The pain was worth it. Let's go home."
We were driving again, going ninety on the highway.
"I WANNA RUIN OUR FRIENDSHIP! WE SHOULD BE LOVERS INSTEAD!" We yelled out.
"I would say this songs like us."
"But we were never really 'friends', you know? Sometimes I was nice to you, and that was it."
"Oh yea, I know." He looked over at me.
"You are driving at ninety, look at the damn road. He looked for a split second before looking back.
He made eye-contact with me.
"I am so in love with you."
"I love you more," I joked. I looked back at the road. "ATLAS WHY IS THERE A TRUCK HEADING TOWARDS US?"
"FUCK!" he yelled.
A truck was in the wrong lane rushing at us. Atlas swerved the car, but it wasn't enough.
Everything went black.
