King's Landing

It had been a year since Rhaegar's wedding and Valyria now had a niece, named Rhaenys after the sister-wife of Aegon the Conqueror. Though she rarely saw Rhaegar, Elia, or her niece for they had moved to Dragonstone, shortly after the wedding. Aerys's paranoia had only increased in that time, he feared every shadow and whisper. He had become obsessed with Wildfire, and regularly burned those he saw as traitors, forcing Valyria, Viserys, and Rhaella to watch.

Once this started occurring, Cersei and Valyria modified their schedule to avoid the Court as much as possible. Resorting to staying in the gardens for longer. Valyria had in these years, mastered two of the three fighting styles being taught to her by the Kingsguard: the traditional Westerosi style, Dornish style, and Water Dancing. Due to Ser Arthur being on Dragonstone, Valyria had to practice water dancing without him.

During one of their afternoon strolls through the gardens Cersei made it known that Jaime was coming to visit, he had received his knighthood not long ago, for valor in the fight against the Kingswood Brotherhood. Valyria was excited to see her old friend, Jaime's letters had been less frequent since he started squiring, which both girls assumed was normal.

Jaime arrived a fortnight later, Cersei had decided to wait for him, while Valyria completed her sparring lesson with Ser Barristan. The elder knight had told Valyria to spar with some of the older squires and younger knight, as he had to attend to the King. She was currently in the middle of a heated duel with an older squire, Valyria swung Dark Sister; the legendary sword of her ancestor, Visenya Targaryen, which she and Rhaegar had recently found; the squire blocked it and Valyria swung the blades in a circle dislodging the sword from the squire's hand. And swiftly bringing Dark Sister to the boy's throat, before moving away and walking towards a shaded area.

Jaime watched Valyria fight in awe, it had been years since he had seen her, and even then he had not witnessed her fight. "That's Valyria?" he questioned Cersei, "Yes, she's grown quite a lot since you last saw her." Jaime nodded as he watched her walk off to the side, having beaten the poor squire she was pinned against. The twins walked to where Valyria sat.

When she heard footsteps approach, Valyria turned to see Cersei and Jaime walking towards her, she quickly shot up and hugged Jaime, at first the Lannister was a bit hesitant but soon hugged her back. "It's been so long since I last saw you, how are you, Jaime?" he smiled to himself "I've been doing well, I apologize for my infrequent letters, I was very busy as a squire." Valyria chuckled, "Come on, Cersei and I will show you around, then you can have some alone time." she said mischievously, making Cersei blush a bit and Jaime staring at her with wide eyes.

The girls showed Jaime around the castle, Cersei showing a few of her favorite spots, while Valyria showed off the secret passages. The three eventually stopped at the Tower of the Hand where Jaime talked with his father, Cersei and Valyria arranged for dinner to be brought to the tower's dining room.

The three ate dinner and exchanged stories of their time apart, laughing when something funny was said. As the night dragged on, Valyria decided it was her time to leave. She walked the deserted halls alone until she came across her room.

The next day Valyria woke up early and attended her sword lessons, a surprise came when she saw Jaime at the training yard, waiting for her. "What are you doing here?" she questioned, "I thought I might spar with you." he said calmly, Valyria raised a brow at him, "Alright," Valyria walked up to Prince Lewyn and Ser Gerold and explained what she and Jaime were going to do, the Dornish knight smiled, and told her to go ahead.

During their night together Cersei had convinced Jaime to join the Kingsguard, as to be closer to her. She had also suggested sparring with Valyria, as some of the Kingsguard were almost always present and watching. So it would be a good chance to show off his skill.

Valyria unsheathed Dark Sister and twirled it in her hand. Jaime stood opposite of her with his sword in hand, they circled each other for a moment before Valyria dealt the first blow. Jaime effortlessly parried the strike, the fight lasted for a while, with each of them dealing and parrying strikes. The match culminated with both lion and dragon locking blades, Jaime put all his weight into his blade, forcing Valyria down to the ground. Valyria slipped her foot behind Jaime's leg and swept him off his feet, sending him to the ground. Valyria quickly stood up, kicking Jaime's sword out of reach and bringing her sword to his neck. "Beat you," she said with a smile.

Ser Gerold and Prince Lewyn laughed at the Princess, they had both watched her grow up, and it was nice to see her having fun despite the dark times. "She's improved since the last time I watched her," Gerold said, Lewyn opened his mouth to speak but stopped, when Jaime grabbed Valyria's leg pulling her back to the ground.

Jaime used her stunned state to his advantage and grabbed his sword back, placing it by her neck, "I . . . beat you." he said, smirking. "Gundja," she said with narrowed eyes. Jaime stood up and extended an arm to Valyria to help her up. The two spent the afternoon walking around the castle, exploring and telling the stories of their time training. "Come, I want to show you something," Valyria said as sunset neared. She led Jaime to a balcony that overlooked Blackwater Bay, "I come here when I need to clear my mind, it's as if everything floats away when I look out at the bay." she said, leaning on the railing and watching the ships in the port. "Cersei wants me to join the Kingsguard." Jaime said calmly, Valyria turned to look at him confused, "Is that what you want?. . The Kingsguard vows are taken for life." "I know, I told her that I would accept." Valyria nodded at his words, "Well, you should know then that at Lord Whent's upcoming tourney at Harrenhal, Rhaegar plans to make some changes, as my father won't be attending, he can further secure alliances with other Houses. . . . You won't serve under my father for long." Jaime was surprised that Valyria would say such things. She noticed his surprise, "Tywin Lannister has been more of a father than mine ever was." she said, continuing to watch the ships below her.
