-A Nosy Hand-
298 AC
Kings LandingThrough observation and accidental lessons from Cersei, Valyria learned how to play the Game of Thrones. Though she never did actively play.
Over the years, as both a princess and a Kingsguard, Valyria had few allies or friends in the capital besides Jaime, Cersei, and Tyrion; the latter had started living in Kings Landing shortly after Tommen was born. Though an unlikely friend she had made was Varys. The master of whisperers took a liking to the princess back when he served her father but now in adulthood, he became a close acquaintance to the Targaryen.
Most times when they would encounter each other the Spider would tell the Red Dragon of some whispers he had caught in his web. It was through these encounters that she learned of Jon Arryn poking around in business he should not.
" Lord Varys, it's good to see you on this fine day," Valyria said with a bow of her head. " You as well, my princess." He said, returning the gesture. " I have heard a whisper that would interest you," Varys said, Valyria raised her eyebrows urging him to continue. "Jon Arryn and Lord Stannis have been looking into King Robert's bastards and the royal children." Valyria's eyes widened at the news. If Lord Arryn discovered the truth it would mean Joffrey, Tommen, Myrcella, Cersei, and Jaime's heads would line the city gates. No. She would not let that happen.
She thanked Varys before rushing to the queen's room, she threw open the doors to see both Jaime and Cersei standing there straightening their clothes. "Don't you know how to knock?" Jaime said slightly annoyed at the sudden intrusion.
Valyria glared at him "Shut up. . . Jon Arryn is looking into your children." She said, emphasizing the 'your'. "What do you mean 'looking into my children?" Cersei questioned. "He's been visiting Robert's bastards. If he hasn't figured it out already he will soon. And Stannis is helping him." Valyria panicked, the golden twins and Tyrion had proven to be her only true friends in Kings Landing and perhaps all of Westeros. "I will deal with this," Cersei said coldly.
Within a fortnight Jon Arryn was dead, a fever took him, though Valyria knew it was poison. Stannis had fled from the capital back to Dragonstone, fearing for his own life. Days after the Lord of the Vale's passing King Robert announced that they were going to Winterfell so that he could name Eddard Stark his new Hand.
