-The Trident-
283 AC
Kings LandingRhaegar returned a fortnight after the raven arrived in Kings Landing. Valyria patiently waited in the front courtyard for his arrival. The sound of hooves made Valyria look up to see Rhaegar ride in on his silver steed. He quickly dismounted and engulfed Valyria in an embrace. "I've missed you, Sen." for as much as they had fought in the past year, Valyria couldn't help but feel safer now that Rhaegar was here. "It's been awful, Rhaegar. I really do want Father gone. He is a vile man and a terrible father." she said, making Rhaegar tighten his hold on her.
"Sen, you mustn't say such things out loud. If the wrong person hears, it could be the end of us," he whispered. Valyria only nodded and followed him inside the keep. Together they walked through the quiet halls of Maegor's Holdfast, "Where were you? No one has heard from you in months." she asked, breaking the silence between them. "Lyanna and I went to the Tower of Joy in Dorne. Arthur helped me ferry supplies from Starfall. . . I also have exciting news, Lyanna is pregnant. Soon enough the prophecy will be fulfilled, Sen. And all will be good." at the mention of Lyanna and that damned prophecy Valyria sighed. "Rhaegar, you have to consider your actions. You and Lyanna started a war, I pray you understand the consequences of your actions." Valyria said, solemnly. It was Rhaegar's turn to sigh this time. The two continued to walk in silence until they came upon the Small Council chamber.
When they entered they were met with Aerys, Varys, Grand Maester Pycelle, Rossart, Ser Barristan, and Jaime. "Finally you have returned from whatever hole you fled to." Aerys sneered at his son. "Apologies, Father," Rhaegar said submissively.
Aerys turned to look upon the map of Westeros. "The rebels have gathered a large force and are making their way further south from Riverrun," Varys said gazing at the map. "You will gather your own host with aid from the Dornish, and meet the rebels at the Trident," Aerys said pointing a long fingernail at the Trident. "Father, perhaps you should ask Lord Tywin for assistance?" Valyria questioned.
Aerys nodded his head and waved his hand at Pycelle who bowed and left to do the King's bidding. "Rhaegar, Ser Lewin is meeting your Dornish allies. Take Sers Barristan and Jonothor with you." Aerys stated as he looked out of a window. "I shall leave at once, Father," Rhaegar said, walking out of the room with Valyria and Jaime running after him.
"Rhaegar. Rhaegar! Wait." Valyria called out, when her brother finally stopped and turned to see them he let a small smile form on his lips. Valyria opened her mouth but Jaime spoke first. "Please take me with you, I can't stand it here any longer." Jaime pleaded, Rhaegar sighed, "When the battle's done I mean to call a council. Changes will be made. I meant to do it a long time ago, but . . . well, it does no good to speak of roads not taken. We shall talk when I return. . . For now, you must protect Elia and my children, and Valyria." Jaime nodded, "You should take me with you, gods know I can fight better than you. And I can protect myself just fine." Valyria said with furrowed brows. Rhaegar chuckled, "No, Sen. You must protect Elia, Rhaenys, and Aegon. Please, Sen." She only nodded and with that Rhaegar left.
A fortnight had passed and there was no news of Rhaegar. Lord Tywin had not sent a response to the Mad King's raven. Valyria had spent most of her days training with Jaime, in that time she had grown increasingly protective of Dark Sister, her sword. Spending many a time polishing the ancient Valyrian Steel.
The next day, a raven brought grave news. Rhaegar had been killed in single combat by Robert Baratheon. After hearing the news Valyria had fled to her room and cried. Everything she had bottled up from the past months was let out. Valyria ended up sitting on her balcony, staring blankly at King's Landing.
She heard the door open but didn't bother turning around. "Sen?" Jaime asked cautiously, edging his way closer to her. Valyria didn't move, she only continued to look out at the city. "Sen, get down from there. You could fall," he said worriedly.
"Rhaegar and I would always go and venture into the streets of Kings Landing, we loved to be amongst the people. And now . . . he's gone . . . " she said, new tears forming in her eyes and streaming down her cheeks. "I know it hurts, Sen. . . But we told him that we would take care of Elia and the children. We can at least do that." Jaime said, approaching Valyria on the ledge.
Valyria pondered on Jaime's words, eventually, she relented and turned around to face him. "Your right. I told him I would protect Elia, Rhaenys, and Aegon." Valyria hopped down and gave Jaime a hug. "Thank you," she whispered.
Valyria's mother announced later the next day that she was with child, Aerys promptly sent her and Viserys to Dragonstone. But kept Elia and her children in Kings Landing as hostages. Doing the same with Jaime. The next day Valyria scoured the Red Keep until she found a handmaiden that had some skill with a knife. She ordered them to protect Princess Elia and her children and when the rebels marched on the capital, help them escape from the city.
