Dark Ages

I've been around for quite a while,

And I think it's safe to say

I've witnessed things that I would like

To simply wish away

I've seen the people kill

And I've seen the people fight

But the hardest part of all

Was watching them put out the light

Way before your time

When the world was still on track

I know you'd rather just forget

But I wish we could  go back

To when the flowers bloomed in spring

And the birds flew through the air

Back when if you needed water

There'd always be enough to spare

But then came the dark ages

Each person held a smoking gun

And a fear sank in across the world-

We were now slaves to the sun

And amidst all that commotion

And behind each child's tear

Was a guiltiness, without dispute-

We'd gotten ourselves here.
