The Orphan

Chapter Five.

Autumn-

"Can we have ice creams?" I tugged on the end of daddy's jacket.

"Maybe, if you're really good." He assured me.

A giant grin grew on my face, "I will!" I promised.

We were waiting in line at the bank, we had been waiting for what seemed like hours but was probably only ten minutes.

"My legs are tired!" I moaned.

"Just a couple more minutes and we'll be eating ice creams." he assured me.

I huffed wanting to sit down.

"Where's mommy?" I asked curiously.

"Right here!" I was swept off the ground and engulfed in a giant bear hug, I shrieked in surprise and threw my tiny arms around her neck,

"mommy!"

"Everyone get down!" a loud voice boomed around the room, two loud bangs were fired making me scared, I started crying afraid of the unknown.

Mom and dad had dropped to the ground and stared at the ground while trying to sooth my sobs.

It wasn't working, their reassuring words were just words and the men dressed in black were scary and real.

There were a few screams from people.

I wasn't sure what was happening. everything was going so fast.

My cries got louder getting the attention of one of the scary men.

"Shut your kid up or I'll do it for you!" the man yelled.

"Please no! she's only three!" my dad defended me.

The man clicked his gun and pointed it at my dad, "I would shut up if I was you!" the man threatened.

My dad did as he was told and started whispering soothing words to me.

"What are you two talking about!" another man dressed in black came over.

"Nothing we're just trying to calm our baby!" my mom snapped with a harsh edge to her voice.

"Don't get smart with me! remember I'm the one with the gun, where's the phone!" The man growled.

Police sirens blared In the background.

"Hurry up!" another one yelled.

"You've been stalling me haven't you!" the man growled bitterly at mom.

A shot came from the other side of the room and everyone screamed including me.

The man became irritated with me and pointed the gun at me but mom crawled in front of me and blocked the bullets path.

"Ellie!" dad shouted and I cried as blood puddled by moms dead body.

Dad lunged for the gun man and another fire was shot before the last of the men fled the bank and dad slowly fell to the ground.

I screamed and cried unable to stop sobbing, a stranger took me into her arms but I pushed her away.

"Autumn!" Tori shook me awake.

I jolted up in sitting position.

I was in my bedroom back at the orphanage, my hand shot up to wipe my freshly wet tears off my cheek.
