Chapter 10- Frost Bite

***Maylene's p.o.v***

*Previously*

"Rrrahhh!" Speculum roared as I turned to see him launch two of his claws right towards me.

'Right or Left? Right or Left?' I thought quickly as the claws closed in fast.

'Left it is then,' I thought jumping out of the way of the left side.

I watched in slow motion as the left claw was pulled back.

I chose wrong.

Schunk.

I widened my eyes in fear and shock as the dragon's right claw tore through my chest.

Excruciating pain tore through my entire body as my world started darkening.

The last thing I felt was my body hitting the cold hard ground beneath me.

*Now*

I slid back on the icy floor after landing a clean hit on the dragon before I blinked back in surprise.

'What was that? A vision?' I thought in shock.

"I've had enough of this!"

I turned at the dragon's shout. I quickly moved back covering my face as the dragon, Speculum, destroyed the icy floor with its claws.

"Rrrahh!" Speculum growled as I turned to see him launch two of his claws right towards me.

Remembering the vision, I thought, 'Alright, we'll go right then.'

I jumped out of the way of the right side and watched as the left claw was pulled back as the right claw swiped at me, but missed as I had chosen correctly this time.

'The vision was right,' I thought surprised, before I smirked.

"Alright! Ice Dragon; Talon!" I shouted, landing a hit to the dragon's jaw.

The dragon roared in pain, swiping away at its face.

Landing on one of its claws, I ran up the dragon to its backside.

"Ice Dragon- ah!" I exclaimed as the dragon tried to throw me off.

I wasn't going to let that happen though. I tried gripping onto the dragon's scales to keep myself from falling off the beast, which was difficult as the dragon's scales were made of glass shards.

The dragon's scales dug into my palms as I skidded down the dragon's backside in its attempt to throw me off, finally coming to a stop on the dragon's back right talon.

'Normal attacks aren't enough. I need to focus more power into my attacks. I need to drop the temperature more. Let's see how much of the cold you can take,' I thought.

Placing both of my hands on the dragon's talon, I focused my magic power into one spot.

'Colder, colder, colder. I need to make it colder,' I thought as I rapidly dropped the temperature in my palms.

Speculum roared, feeling as the cold nipped at his talon.

'Colder... Now!' I thought.

"Ice Dragon; Freeze Dry!" I yelled, lifting my hands up and slamming them back down on the dragon's talon.

Ice speedily traveled across a small area of the dragon's talon, burrowing into the dragon before it cracked.

Speculum roared in pain, lifting its back talon to shake me off.
