I walked into Maria's office once again in the morning.
"Anything to do today?" I asked.
"You know yesterday was your first failed mission?"
"Incomplete, incomplete okay? You know yesterday was also my first mission you made me do with someone else?"
"Geez sorry I bruised your ego," she said.
"Hmph," I sat back in victory.
"Anyways, you still need to investigate exactly what that lab was doing and hopefully find the mutants. If you could convince them to come to SHIELD that would be the best choice, if not, you know what to do."
"Ok easy. Can I do it by myself?"
"Nope, your still doing it with Clint. We would like some new agents, maybe he can keep you in check, instead of just killing all of them."
"Who said I would do that?" I asked in mock disbelief.
"Because in all your months of working here, you have never brought back a captive."
"Was I supposed to?" I asked.
"That's exactly my point," she said, rubbing her temples.
"Well you guys can do the analyzing, I'll do the killing, did you get anything from what I found yesterday?"
"Do you care?"
"No not really. Do I need to know more besides blah blah, they are making mutants?"
"It's much more complicated than that, but okay," she sighed.
For the next month, Clint and I went on side missions together and we slowly gained more information on the organization that was making mutants. They called themselves "The Seven Deadly Sins". I sighed. This was becoming more and more complicated.
The one in France was Gluttony and they were in charge of researching. Part of the Envy branch was present, and they were guarding the researchers. The lab we hit in the beginning of the month was only one of many. They were surprisingly loyal and the ones that Clint insisted we capture for information died before we could bring them in.
"Where did these guys even come from?" I asked Maria as I read the new page of information that was put together.
"The first time they came out with their name was a little more than 2 years ago. They approached Tony and tried to turn him over to their side as the Lust branch but we are still unsure what they do specifically. It seems like each branch is in charge of something different."
Interesting. That was still when I worked for him.
"Well what now?"
Maria sighed. "Well we want you to go to-"
I sighed along with her, "Don't say what I think you are going to say."
"Well there are plenty of ways to avoid Tony but still go, I don't understand why you are hellbent on avoiding the US."
"Personal reasons"
"Fine, I still don't understand, but you will have to go one day, as much as nobody wants to admit, we do need help over there."
"Why? Which branches are stationed there?"
"All we know for sure so far are the Pride and Sloth factions."
"So there are 7 branches huh? Have the other 3 made moves yet?"
"Not that we know of, we don't even know what they are trying to achieve yet. All we do know is that they are making mutants to terrorize people and are so far are successful."
"Terrorize people?" I asked.
"They launch attacks on public areas, so the Avengers are very busy now. They could use your help," she said, still trying to convince me.
"Nah, they'll be fine," I said.
"So is the public aware?" I asked. This was getting pretty interesting.
"Yes, that's how we know they are called The Seven Deadly Sins, or else we would be working with 4 animal branches right now," she tensely joked.
"How come I didn't hear about this before?"
"They broadcasted a video but it was only in the US, you would know if you were there."
"Okay, okay!"
"You'll go?" she asked hopefully.
"No."
She sighed, "Fury is gonna get on my ass because of this."
"Anyways, it's been a month, can't I go on an individual mission?"
"Sure."
"Yess! What am I doing?"
"Getting kidnapped."
"WHATT??"
And so here I am sitting uncomfortably with my hands tied in the back of a van.
I was sent in with broken knifes and pretended to be worried when they broke mid battle and let myself be taken. But don't worry, I still went down with a good fight. The wires on me were stripped off but that was only to be expected. What wasn't expected though was the new drug they developed that actually succeeded in knocking me out. At least it wouldn't work the next time, I already built up a resistance now.
So I had no idea where I was right now but that was fine because I tested the handcuffs and I could easily get out of them. I examined my surroundings. Hahah I couldn't cause there was a black bag over my head. How cliché.
"So where we going?" I shouted cheerfully. I felt someone yank the bag off my head.
"Interesting," they said as they examined me uncomfortably close.
"So as much as I'm loving this, who are you?" I was told to get as much information as I could, so why not just ask them? Then I was supposed to bust myself out whenever it got too dangerous. That plan really made me question their value of me. That's literally just getting kidnapped!!
He ignored my question and kept thinking out loud. "That serum was designed to keep a mutant out for at least 24 hours but he was only out for 12 hours. That's half the time. Interesting. Interesting. No visible signs of mutant genes either, and he has not shown capabilities past a well-trained human besides this so far either."
I sure hope he left me alone for those 12 hours then. With a quick examination of my body with my powers, I determined nothing was wrong save for a rough journey. Why did he wait until now?
He went to grab a needle and I knew this was going to be trouble. I didn't struggle to show my worry and was thankful that he was the only one in the back of the van. I took a deep breath and got ready to concentrate. I watched as he slowly approached my skin with the needle and twisted the mist to let him see that he inserted it. I didn't want him to have a broken needle and be suspicious of my skin (from the Achilles curse). Next, I manipulated my blood into red and changed it into one of the agent's I had encountered a few days ago. I made the blood come out and go into the syringe and topped it off by adding a layer of mist over that to smooth it all out.
Now whatever was in the syringe was the same blood as another random agent's. I was hoping he would only test the properties, and I could destroy everything before he went to do a DNA test.
"What's that for?" I asked.
"Let's see if you are a mutant," he said.
"I'm not," I replied.
