Waking up in Bryce's arms felt normal now, it was our normal. It had been two weeks since he had woken up from his coma and although he still hadn't gotten his memory back, he had made a lot of progress. He began to feel comfortable with everyone again and was starting to feel like himself.
Today marked an important day, he was finally able to come home. Although the boys wanted him at Sway, Lisa wanted him home to be able to monitor him. I also wanted him close, so I wasn't complaining. Even though my father still wasn't the biggest fan of us, so we would have to be extra careful at home. I tried not to touch the subject with him, but it was clear that we were together.
I didn't care about my fathers opinion anymore though, not when it came to Bryce. We had gone through too much together for me to throw it all away because of my father. So although I was respectful, I didn't let him push us away from each other. And I didn't let him stop me from staying with Bryce every night for the past two weeks.
As we woke up today, Bryce had a brighter smile than he had any other day. He knew he was going home and he couldn't wait to be out of this hospital. "Morning beautiful.." he whispered as he kissed my forehead. I smiled as I wrapped my arms around his torso and gave him a light squeeze. "Morning!" I said as I cuddled up to him.
"Today is the day.." he said with excitement as he sat up, pulling me up with him. I nodded, telling him that his mother was already on the way to pick us up. After his last checkup this morning, we were free to go! "I can't wait.. I want to be able to take you somewhere besides here." he said sweetly, making me blush.
"We have our entire lives to go anywhere we want to, right now we still need to focus on your recovery." I said, kissing his cheek. Bryce was still recovering from his leg injury, having to go home in crutches. But as long as I had him home, I wasn't complaining. Our time was coming to be able to focus on us.
For now, I exited the room, allowing the doctor's to assess him. As I entered the hallway, I saw Lisa and Tim, going to hug them. They had been such a huge support system for me, Tim especially surprising me. We have had our own differences in the past, but he was my brother and would always be there for me like nobody else. His bond with Bryce also kept him close, he felt connected to him as they had been in the accident together.. thankfully Tim made it out with only a wrist brace.
"You excited to have him home?" Tim asked me. I nodded with a huge smile on my face, Lisa saying she was happy for us both. "Thank you.. but I know that my dad isn't.." I said, frowning. I was so close to my father and he always supported me in everything I did, so this hurt me.
"Your dad will come around, I promise.." Lisa said as she hugged me once again. Her hugs always reminded me of my mother, and I couldn't help but get emotional. As I hugged her back, I loved the comfort she gave me. I had been without a mom for over ten years now, and even though I acted strong, it pained me. Lisa coming into our lives was exactly what we needed, and it didn't hurt that she came along with the most perfect son as well.
Bryce's last assessment was quick, the doctor telling us that he was free to go but that he must be on crutches for at least the next two weeks. I nodded, taking note to make sure he would follow all of his doctors orders. As we walked inside the room, Bryce was already sitting on the side of his bed, all ready to go.
I smiled at him as this moment felt unreal. A month ago, he had gotten into this terrible accident that got us here. I felt hopeless and defeated seeing him in a coma for two weeks. But Bryce was so strong, he was a fighter and I knew he would never leave my side.
We all grabbed his stuff as Bryce told us he was ready to leave the hospital. Tim had the car right out front by the time we made it out, all of us just being able to jump in. As we drove, Bryce looked amazed by his surroundings. "I haven't seen a building in so long wow.." he said before turning back to me.
