Chapter 24: The Last General

I opened the doors, heading into Queen Hikari's office building, where King Soho, my friends, and the elemental warriors were waiting. I sat down on a chair next to Selena. King Soho stood up.

"Looks like we're just waiting on one more person now. I hope you're prepared to leave soon."

I looked at him, confused.

"What about a plan?"

"We don't need one. We'll be fine going straight as long as we have you and your friends."

I stood up.

"C'mon, we can't just head straight in! We need a plan of action."

Selena grabbed my arm, telling me not to yell at the king.

The king pulled out a knife and slammed it onto a table.

"You know, I have not problem taking the head of a hero."

I apologized to the king and sat down.

Yuki was staring at Selena but quickly looked away when she glanced at her.

A girl walked in and sat down next to Ruby.

The king looked at her.

"You're late, Kuki."

She didn't say anything to him or acknowledge his presence.

The king sighed and looked at all of us.

"Let's get moving now. We'll teleport close to the kingdom, but we'll have to walk the rest of the way. I hope you're ready."

We left the castle and stepped onto a glowing circle created by Elysia that teleported us into a forest.

The king started walking, telling us to follow him.

While we were walking, I noticed Ruby was getting uneasy while looking at Kuki.

"What's wrong, Ruby?"

"It's my sister."

"Your sister?"

"The girl with black hair and a white tunic. Kuki."

I looked at Kuki.

"What about her?"

"She's a bounty hunter. And bounty hunters don't help or work as a team unless they get something out of it."

"I'm not sure I follow."

"Whatever. Forget I said anything."

The king held his hand out, telling us to stop.

"We're here."

The Soshi Kingdom was in complete ruins. We walked past the gates, and the atmosphere felt like we entered a ghost town, with the homes made of stone crumbling. The castle was in shambles, with a large hole that was visible from where we were. The king told us to stop and asked me to surround us with a barrier.

I did as he asked and surrounded us in a light green barrier.

I looked around, confused as to why he asked me to do this. My eyes widened as I looked up to the sky, seeing a bright light coming toward us. Everyone was shocked as the beam collided with my barrier. The beam subsided, leaving a massive crater on the ground. The king walked forward, still in shock.

"One of the subordinates. But where and who shot the attack?"

"Maybe that guy up there?"

I pointed at a figure in the air, slowly descending toward us.
