Fae POV
All eyes were on me as I walked gracefully beside Theo and I never asked or tried to leave his side. I needed to gain his trust into letting his guard down around me but from the looks of it.
I silently gazed my eyes across the crowd of eyes that stared at me with curiosity, lust, or hate. I did my best to ignore them but their were a few sets of eyes I couldn’t shake off, one set of eyes belonging to Dr. H.
I let out a frustrating sigh that only I could hear and quickly pulled myself together with a fake smile that I have been working on for weeks but I didn’t really have to force it. I was enjoying the fresh air and space so in a weird way I was enjoying myself or maybe I was just happy that I wasn’t isolated in my room anymore but I must say I’m not enjoying the company very much.
Something’s off about these people. I smell fear in the air but everyone is smiling all around me. It doesn’t make any sense but there behavior is almost feigned. I narrowed my eyes as I watched there body language and listened to all the small talk around me.
“Oh, I heard you bought an entire island to build your private indoor spa but I also heard that those dirty commoners gave you a hard time when you forced them from their homes.”
“Oh, nothing that money couldn’t handle but I did have a problem with an elderly man who was quite adamant on not wanting to leave his wife’s grave. The things commoners consider sentimental are absolutely ridiculous.”
“Hear, hear!” They both laughed vilely.
“Peasants these days don’t have any regards or respect for the rich anymore, am I right?” They continued to laugh and I had to tune them out but they weren’t the only ones slandering others and trying to won up the person next to them.
“She must have gotten her dress on sale.”
“It looks so cheap.”
“I rather die then be caught dead in that.” A group of young girls behind mask giggled as they picked apart women who walked passed them.
I snarled in disgust but quickly put a smile back on my face when I caught Theo glancing down at me. “Is something wrong?” He asked softly to me.
“No, everything is fine.” I smiled kindly up at him as I caught a whiff of something sweet. I quickly scouted the room and found a decorative table a distances away with all sorts of sweets that I have never seen before in my life.
I could feel my lips smiling all on there own when I took another whiff of the perfumed air of sweets around me. I thought of leaving Theo for a moment just to go try the desserts my nose was trying to guide me to but I knew this was the inspiration I needed to continue smiling at everyone that came to greet us even the men that stared at my breast instead of my eyes and even the women who flirted with Theo in front of me and glared at me as if they wished I would drop dead but I didn’t mind. I knew if only I could endure this a little longer, I’ll be home free and after some time the eyes on me died down a little but Dr. H watched me like a hawk where ever I went and Theo began to notice as well.
I felt Theo’s hand rest on the center of my back as he guided me to the table I’ve been wanting to go to since I found it but I didn’t know what was edible or what was just for decoration.
“Amen,” Theo cleared his throat and I quickly pulled my mind away from the food for a moment to focus on him and he seemed to be enjoying my fascination for all the unique desserts.
I could feel his hand move down my back as he leaned his mouth close to my ear. “Your beginning to look quite famished. Enjoy yourself while I have a quick chat with my Uncle.” He whispered to me and for the first time all night, he left me alone but I knew this was no time to celebrate.
