I will try to update at least every other day, but don't hold me to that. The holidays are very distracting in my house. Hope everyone is having a great holiday season so far. I hope this makes up for last chapters shortness.
Chapter 29 Well that went about as well as a high speed car accident. But that's my luck.
As I sat down at the Gryffindor table for dinner, I was struck with a strange vision. A large green Centaur was walking through the doors of the Great Hall. I shook my head, and Fred put his hand on my shoulder.
"Jez, you okay, love?" He leaned down and put his forehead against mine. I sighed, feeling bad. We were still the Hogwarts power couple, and it felt terrible. I forced a smile and kissed his cheek, but my eyes flited to Draco. He was glaring at his roast like it called his mom a troll. Suddenly, a cry filtered in from the lobby. I jumped, as did the entire hall, at the sound. The mass of students was like a black hole sucking through the doors. I rode the wave like a pro surfer til we hit the lobby.
"P-p-please. Hogwarts is my home..." Professor Trelawney croaked. Tears were pouring down her cheeks. They looked huge through her buggy glasses. Umbridge was looking down on the scraggle of a woman hunched over her bags.
"Not anymore." The toad said in a voice dripping with cake-like sweetness. But it was like that fake sugar that comes in that pink packet. It pretends to be sugar, but you know its crap. Suddenly, Dumbledore was looming over the women like a father disciplining his daughters.
"You may have the right to fire my teachers, but you don't have the right to kick them off of the grounds. Minerva, please take Sibbyl back up to her quarters." Suddenly, I was being pulled back away from the crowd by a pair of strong, warm arms.
Before I knew which way was yellow, hot lips were crashing onto my own, and my arms were pinned to my sides against the stone wall. I pulled back when I was out of breath, and I was staring into stormy gray eyes.
"D-Draco. Um....wow. What was that?" I gasped out, placing a hand to my throat.
"I just...I miss you, Jezzy. I can't stand it. This is fucking crap. Why? Why can't we be a couple? And don't give me that 'It is too complicated to explain' shit anymore. I want a real answer."
"Draco...It has nothing to do with you. Really. It's me. I just...I have a lot going on right now." I put my hands on his shoulders and pulled him into a hug. I burrowed my head into his neck and felt a tear slide down my cheek. Before I knew it, I was pressing my lips to his again. The electricity and the warmth that rushed through me was indescribable. I felt a tugging in my chest that was starting to swallow me. Suddenly, the image of Sirius falling through the archway laughing flashed across my mind again and I pulled back.
"Jezzy..." Draco whispered.
"What the hell, Jez?" I heard from my left. I jumped and turned to see Fred's distraught face.
"Fred, I-" but I didn't even know what I wanted to say before he stormed off. I started to follow, but was whipped around by Draco.
"Jezzy, don't. Don't go after the Weasel. Stay. Stay here with me. Please." Draco pleaded. His gray eyes were sad. I shit my gaze down to the floor, unable to watch his face.
"Draco, I have to. You don't understand. I have to do this." My voice cracked as I backed away from him His arm fell limp off my arm. His face was stone when he looked up at me.
"You know what? Fine, Hawthorne. I don't know why I thought I wanted to be seen with a freaky blood traitor like you anyway. Go back to your Golden Trio and Weasels. I don't want to catch your freak germs anyway." I suddenly felt like my chest was caving, but I ground my teeth and clenched my fists.
"You're right, Malfoy. I should probably go get that rabies shot Hermoine told me about. I probably have fleas on top of it. I never got a Ego-Ferret vaccine at the orphanage. That must be what that itch it. Better go get sanitized." Draco stormed off in the opposite direction. "Watch out for Animal Control, Drake!" I yelled after him, rubbing my itching nose from the impending tears.
The next day, I walked up to the Divination tower, but there was a sign on the door. Divination had been moved to a downstairs classroom. I sighed and rushed off, afraid of being late. I reached the lobby, but skid to a stop. A large Green centaur with a strange shaped bruise on his chest was walking through the front doors. Well, that explains it. I spotted Harry, Ron and Hermoine across the lobby, and caught eyes with Harry. He looked away as quick as he saw me, a grimace on his face. I sighed. None of them had spoken to me since Fred saw me with Dra-Malfoy.
Malfoy hadn't even looked at me since yesterday. I could see the hurt in his eyes when our eyes met in the halls. I felt like a total bitch. Everyone was pissed at me and I couldn't do a thing about it. I was lost in my sad when someone called my name.
"Miss Hawthorne. Can you come with me, please?" An unfamilar voice said. I looked up into the large yellow eyes of the Centaur that had just entered. I couldn't form words, so I just nodded like an idiot and followed the hooved giant to a nearby classroom. I was taken aback by the sight of the room. It looked like a cove in the Forbidden Forest. The smell even reminded me of trees. I looked around and saw that Malfoy, Hannah and Seamus were already seated on chairs that looked like giant mushrooms. The two boys purposefully looked away from me, and Hannah kept shooting fleeting glances but didn't acknowledge me as I passed.
"Thank you all for being prompt to class, despite the change. I will be with you in a moment, after a quick word with Miss Hawthorne here." Everyone heaved a group sigh as I was led to a large office in the back of the classroom, hidden by long willow branches. The Centaur opened the hidden office door and stepped to the side as I entered.
"Miss Hawthorne, my name is Firenze. I am taking over for your absent Divination teacher. I wanted to speak with you personally. As you are probably aware, there is impending danger on the horizon. You, Miss Hawthorne, are imperative to the safety of the entire Magical world."
"Right, so no pressure then." I muttered. I looked at my feet and sighed, my hair falling around my face, but Firenze's large green hand pulled my chin up so I was looking into his huge glowing eyes.
"Jezabel, you need to focus. This school needs to be united to beat He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. You need to focus on being strong and keeping everyone together. You will defeat Him. I know it. Be strong, young Hawthorne. You will prevail. It is in the stars." He patted my shoulder and my knees almost buckled. I nodded and forced a smile, tucking my hair behind my ear.
"Thank you, sir. I'll keep that in mind." I said, nodding. I walked back out to the classroom, and everyone looked at me for a moment before shooting their eyes to the mossy floor. I sighed and plopped into a seat in the corner, away from the hateful mass of three.
I walked to lunch dragging my feet and staring at the floor. I didn't know what to do. Everyone hated me. Fred looked like someone ran over his puppy any time I entered the room, and I was pretty sure Ginny was plotting to poison my pumpkin juice. Malfoy had been stone cold to me, barely even noticing my existence. I sighed and almost ran into the back of Luna.
"Oh gosh, sorry Luna! I said, plastering on my increasingly familiar fake smile. Luna regarded me thoughfully with her large, misty eyes.
"Hello, Jez. How are you? I heard about the incident with you, Fred and Malfoy." She said plainly.
"Just peachy, Luna. Thanks." I said with a chuckle. Luna smiled slightly and shook her head.
"You shouldn't lie like that. The Nargles feed on lies. I know you aren't doing great. I can see it. But things will get better. I know it." She patted my shoulder before floating off down the hall. I sighed and shook my head.
I am not sure how long this is, but I hope you enjoy it. I will try to update again later today or tomorrow night. I am busy all day tomorrow, so hopefully I can at least do some drafts on my phone. It feels good to be updating on a PC finally! don't forget to comment and vote! <3
