"So, what're you working on?" Eleanora prompted Snape after she'd gone on a long-winded tangent about how the first years in her house kept stealing the good seats in the common room.

His mouth twitched slightly and he handed her the last paper he'd graded. It was on the components of a fire protection potion.

"Ahhhh, I remember this essay. Third year." She scanned the paper and handed it back to Snape. "They got bursting mushrooms mixed up with the wartcap powder," she said, frowning.

"Yes, I'm giving them a low mark," Snape drawled.

She tilted her head at him and handed the paper back. "No, don't do that. They got everything else right."

"Let me do my job, Miss Marks, and you do yours."

"Who knows?" said Eleanora, smirking. "Maybe one day I'll have your job."

She'd been hanging out in the dungeon classroom every day during her free period for almost a week. Snape didn't mind the company, but he would never show it. He'd always liked Eleanora more than most students, despite her being a Gryffindor. He'd known her father in his days at school, and Eleanora reminded him of Cillian in a lot of ways.

"So," Eleanora said, sipping the tea she'd brought with her, "when are we starting love potions?"

He sighed and looked up. "I've loaned you practically all of my potions books over the years, and you're saying you still don't know how to make a love potion?"

She snorted into her mug. "'Course I do, I've known how since I was thirteen. No, I want to learn how to make Amortentia."

Snape scoffed. "If we have time for them, we'll do them closer to winter. Now, are you planning on putting your name in for the Triwizard tournament?"

Eleanora laughed at his attempt to change the subject. "Yeah, I'm going to."

"You know," Snape looked up. "It may not be the most wise decision."

"What d'you mean?"

"It just-" Snape seemed almost pained in saying it, "It's not as easy as you think- people have... died."

Eleanora didn't take him seriously. "I know that, but it was years ago that people died. What, don't you think I'm qualified?" she said, giving him a teasing grin.

He didn't smile. "I've- heard things. This year... things are going to be- different."

Eleanora's smile dropped. "Different how?"

Just then, the bell rang and Snape stood up quickly. "Just think about what you're getting yourself into before you put your name in," he said, ushering Eleanora out of the classroom.
