The journey to London was uneventful. The only sound from the car was the sat-nav's instructions, Pian and Drago slept in the back. Jake resisting the urge the see how fast the car would go, even though the roads were relatively clear. He also decided that even though he had lots of questions for Xavier, concentrating on the road was his priority.
They joined the A40 at Uxbridge and turned onto the A4127 towards Sudbury at Greenford. They pulled into the private car park on the outskirts of the town and drove to the top level to park up. Jake got out of the car.
'The guys are never gonna believe I drove this car' he said, excitement in his voice.
Xavier removed the travel chip and threw it to Jake
'You may need this again, keep hold of it'
Pian and Drago climbed out of the back seats and stretched.
'Not much room in there' Drago said through a yawn.
Jake opened the boot of the car and rummaged through the bag that Gabriel had given him. He pulled out a t-shirt and a blue hooded jacket. He found a can of deodorant in the side pouch. Stripping off his top, he sprayed and changed into the fresh clothes. He was about the shove his old clothes back into the bag when Pian said
'I think there is something in there for me'.
Jake pulled out all the clothes from the bag. At the bottom there was a pair of light blue jeans, a thin cream polo neck jumper and a mid-length black wool coat. She removed her boots and pulled the trousers on under her cloak. After putting her boots back on she lifted the cloak over her head. They all notice the scar across her stomach that was exposed under the crop top she wore.
'Whoa where did you get that?' Jake blurted out.
'It's nothing' she said, clearly uncomfortable.
'Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you' said Jake feeling guilty for bringing it up.
'Its ok' said Pian 'It happened a long time ago, when I was a child, when the Drakim fell'
Jake said sorry again. She placed her hand on his arm
'Its fine, I told you it's nothing'
When she removed her hand, Jakes vision blurred, he leaned against the car trying to keep himself from falling. Drago grabbed him, holding him up
'Jake, are you OK?' concern in Drago's voice.
But Jake couldn't hear him; his mind had transported him to another place. He scanned the room it was dark. It seemed to be a bedroom of some kind. He spotted some movement in the corner as a frightened voice said
'Who's there?'
Jake tried to respond, but couldn't. He felt the presence of something behind him. The figure walked through him and ran over to the child
'Father, what's happening?'
The man didn't have time to respond, the door was blasted open splinters of wood scattered around the room some going through Jake. Two demons grabbed the man. A cloaked figure entered the room. He pulled a long handled sword from his belt.
'Drakim, we will obliterate you from our midsts'
He was just about to strike when the child, a girl, jumped out in front of her father, shielding him with her body. The blade bit deep into her stomach, she screamed in pain and fell to the floor. Jake tried to move, to get to the little girl, but he couldn't get to her.
He watched as the father pulled free from his assailants and rush to his daughter's side. He cradled her in his arms, tears streaming down his face. Jake could feel the tears too, they ran unashamedly down his cheeks.
