Eddie stands in Amber's living room. He twists the gold band on his ring finger.
This is not the marriage he thought he would have.
He likes Amber. He could fall for her again. But he doesn't want to lie to Kyle.
"Should we be scared?" Amber asks.
"The last time something like this happened, many people were killed," Eddie answers. "Including Con's mom. My mother taught me to never show fear, but between you and me, last night could've been better."
"Do you think I'm a bad person?" Amber asks.
"I think you're a person," Eddie says. "We all make mistakes. We're not perfect. Not even the mayor."
"I shouldn't have cheated on you," Amber says.
"Ancient history," Eddie says.
"You really cared about me," Amber says. "We are intellectually compatible. We challenge each other. We see the other for who they are."
"There was a life or death situation last night," Eddie reminds her. "We can be fake married. We don't have to be anything more."
"Last night, it was just Kyle and me, and all I could think about was who I wanted to complete our family," Amber admits. "It's you Eddie."
Eddie's eyes widen.
He did not know how much he needed to hear it.
"Con is exciting and a little dangerous, but that's not who you want to raise a family with," Amber explains. "For once put your own happiness ahead of Con's."
