"Carter Li," William says.
They are in the abandoned lobby of town hall.
"I had the pleasure of killing your father and I have the pleasure of killing you too," he says.
"Why?" Carter asks. "I understand your hatred toward Con's family, but why everyone else?"
"I'm a Magic Catcher," William says. "I tried to end the Spiders by marrying Aster Graves. My plan backfired."
"Why don't you just destroy all the towns?" Carter asks. "There are fifty. Between the Magic Catchers and the Anti-Magic Group, you can manage that."
"Why destroy valuable land?" William asks. "We need the people gone first. And you magical folk are all over the place now. So many people have magical creature DNA, even if it's one percent."
"I don't need a big movie speech," Carter says. He takes his wand out of his pocket and unfolds it. Williams laughs. A perfect villain laugh.
"You think my daughter will save you," William assumes. "Maybe she's been working with me this whole time."
"She and I have been tracking down Aster Graves," Carter explains.
"Why don't you flick your wand and end this?" William asks. "That's right. You've never killed anyone before. I have. I killed your father, your late wife, Con's mother. You must be so angry with me."
"Why don't you just drain my magic?" Carter asks. "If you drained witches' and warlocks' magic, you wouldn't have to kill them."
"You can always get your magic back," William says. "Magic transfusions and whatnot. I'm sorry Carter. Actually, I'm not." He shoots.
Amber rushes into the room.
"Dad, what did you do?" she shouts. She runs to his side. He's bleeding. She pulls out her phone and dials 9-1-1.
"It's too late," William says. "I did what I had to do. Join us Amber. It's your destiny."
"No thank you," Amber says.
"Suit yourself." William shrugs and leaves.
"Carter." She sees the wand lying a few feet away. "You should've done something."
