We were 5 minutes into biology class as the teacher asked us to pair up as lab partners for a project. I wanted to partner up with Lexi but before I could approach her, Kathy did first.
Lexi then ran over to me, I thought was to partner up with me, instead, "hey, I'm partnering up with Kathy. I'm sure you're ok with that right?"
Well, what could I say, "uh sure no problem." I tried to plaster on a fake smile.
I've always hated whenever we had to partner up or team up. I tend to get really anxious due to usually being the last pick or the girl without a partner. Although this time, a few random students offered to partner with me since I was the top of the class for the first semester. Ryan was one of them, not really a shock though. He just wanted me to do the work for him. Despite knowing that, as well as me promising myself never to care about him ever again, his mischievously good looking smirk had me doing otherwise.
"You can partner up with me. You're welcome." He automatically sat down beside me.
I shyly nodded. In that moment it was like I forgotten every horrible thing he's done to me. Back in the corner, I saw Jace with a disappointed face looking at me while ignoring a few girls offering to be his partner. After I partnered up with Ryan, Jace also partnered up with Jessica. I knew this hurts Jace, he never really like Ryan or any other of his friends. I hate myself for doing so, but I couldn't help it. After all, it's Ryan.
As school ended, I approached Ryan, "hey uh, do you want to talk about the project?"
"Ya no, you, just finish everything yourself. Why else would I want to partner with you." He rolled his eyes. "You better not mess this up." He shoved me aside and went on his way.
Well, I should have totally expected that.
Before I could make my way to the car, I was stopped by Zara. Seriously, why can't she just leave me alone.
"Hey little princess with 6 knights. So are you happy now? You finally had me and your brother split up." She was getting closer with every word she said and slowly backing me up to the wall.
"Finally get what you deserve little goody-two-shoe. You've always annoyed me so much." Derek said while started dragging me away.
I was once again dragged away somewhere against my will and unable to help myself. I was already so used to it I closed my eyes and waited for what's to come.
I let out a deep sigh. Everyone who passed by laughed at me or threw something at me and I was unable to get away. They dragged me to the school flag pole and.... it's so embarrassing to even say it. They hanged me there on my underwear. Yes I got a hanging wedgie. Luckily, my feet was still barely able to reach the floor so I could still support myself but was unable to get out. People were taking pictures and everything. Such a good way to end this year. I was stuck there helplessly. I felt so exposed and humiliated. I bent my head down and covered my face. After a straight up 15 minutes, although felt like an eternity, of humiliation, finally my saviour came.
As Blake spotted me from far away, he squinted his eyes to get a clearer look. Thank god he saw me as he walked towards me. He then stopped in front of me and crossed his arms. He widened his eyes in amusement. He covered his mouth trying to hold his laugh looking at me in this embarrassing position.
"Just, just get me out." I quietly said with my face buried in my hands.
"Fine fine." He finally burst into laughter. "Well I gotta take a picture first."
"Blake!!!!!" I screamed.
He finally let me down but not before he took a picture.
"Aren't you suppose to be angry and wanting to beat up the people who did it?" I asked while waking towards his car.
"And you would tell me to not do anything. I am angry, but still, it was really funny." He was still laughing.
"Ugh. Worse brother ever." I groaned and rolled my eyes.
"Ok ok I'm sorry." He ruffled my hair.
I moved my head away quickly. "Don't mess up my hair."
He laughed again. "Alright little diva." He then sighed, then his voice suddenly turned serious. "Who did this? Kathy? Kalgan? Zara?"
"Well you're right, I... I don't want you to do anything." I answered.
"It's Zara isn't it? That bitch has it coming." He cracked his knuckles and went towards her immediately who was at the school gate with some of her friends.
I quickly grabbed his hand preventing him from going, but damn he was strong. Not amazed though. I had to use my entire body weight pulling him back to get his attention. By the time he looked at me I was already on the floor being dragged by him.
"What?" He stared at me.
"I was kidding about you being a bad brother ok? Just don't go." I pleaded.
"Why not? I'm gonna make her pay." He started dragging me on again but stopped awhile later and stared at me. "Now can you let my hand go?"
"No, let's uh, just go home please. Don't do whatever you're planning to. At least not now." I pleaded again. "I can take care of myself ok."
"Says the one who begged me to get her down from the flagpole." He rolled his eyes and looked down. He kept quiet for a long time. "Fine. Let's go. But I swear to god if it happens again..."
"Ok ok whatever let's just go." I pulled him away.
I didn't want them or anyone to get revenge for me. I can take care of myself, I mean I want to be able to take care of myself. Have them fight my battles for me only makes me weaker.
"Where the fuck were you." Noah shouted at me.
"I... I'm sorry." I apologised.
"Shut up Noah." Andrew said while using his phone. "Well, where were you Emma?"
"Well, I found her..." Blake started.
"At the football field." I cut in trying to save myself from the embarrassing story.
"Yea," he chuckled, "nope. I found her in a hanging wedgie at the flagpole." He blurted insensitively.
Four of them broke into laughters while I buried my face in my hands and laughed as well. Jay however did not react at all.
Although the story was embarrassing, being able to laugh like that with them really made me feel like they are my actual brothers.
My thought was interrupted by Jay. "Seriously, would you just stop with the attention seeking. You're such a drama queen. Fuck off!" He threw his backpack at me.
"Jay, come on." Andrew said.
"Shut up." He replied then put on his AirPods and looked outside the window.
I can see he doesn't hate his brothers at all. But hates me a lot obviously. Hope he could come around soon too. I don't hate him at all knowing he has his reasons and I try my best to understand them, but sometimes it's just.... really hard.
