Kuroo's POV
"Hey, you ready?" I asked, poking my head in the window. Tsukishima nodded, securing the bag slung over his back. I descended the ladder again, looking up and waiting for Tsukishima to reach the ground as well. The car had what little supplies and food we had, so hopefully it'd last until we can find more.
We both got in the car, Tsukishima reclining his seat with a sigh. I glanced at the fuel tank. It was getting a bit close to empty.. We'd need to find more cars with accessibly gasoline too. We've used any in any cars or vehicles we've come across anywhere around here. I started the car, giving my boyfriend the map while I drove.
"North, huh?"
"Why not. Unless you oppose?"
"No, don't care." He said, looking at the trails I had marked up with the red marker. I planted one hand on the wheel, grabbing a cigarette from my pocket with the other. Tsukishima gave me a small glare, so I cranked the small wheel on the driver's door to open the window.
I lit the cigarette and took a deep inhale, slowly letting out a breath as the smoke flew out the window. Tsukishima looked displeased still, but put up with it and opened his own window.
It didn't take too long to reach further than we've normally traveled. We made sure to check any stores we'd pass along the way. And some of them were alright, not much supplies though. Everything seemed pretty picked over and taken, especially food or medicine. But at least we got some new cloth to use as bandages and a few more bottles of water.
We spent at least another 3 hours driving when we came across a large store. Looks like it could've been a mall at some point in time. In fact I think it was.
"Hey, wanna check that out? Could be a gold mine."
"It could also be dangerous. We don't have ammo to spare for a useless run." Tsukishima said as he looked at the crumbling building.
"Just a peak?"
"..Alright, but quickly. If we don't find anything in it soon, we leave." Tsukishima said. I nodded, both of us gathering our guns and flashlights before heading to the building. The glass entrance that surely used to be grand was now shattered and broken.
We did find a small cave in where we could enter, so we walked in there. The noise of infected could already be heard. There were their ugly groans and moans and the noise of their rotting feet patting the ground as they'd wander about the tiled floors.
"I don't know, Kuroo..."
"Come on, quiet. I see light over there." I whispered, Tsukishima following me into what used to be a store. As we walked, we grabbed what clothing we could. New clothes could be important for our own cleanliness and what we couldn't wear would be cut up and used as bandages.
Tsukishima was busy tucking another soft shirt into the bag around his back when I saw the light I had spotted flicker again. I walked over slowly, holding my gun with both hands just in case. As I approached, it sounded like there was breathing behind this 'curtain' being held up by random cut sleeves being used as rope and cut and unrolled shirts.
"Hey, is someone there...?" I said quietly.
"Who are you..?" A voice responded. Tsukishima and I looked at each other before I turned back towards the voice.
"We're traveling up north."
"By foot?"
"No, we have a car."
"Are.. are you able to take us with you? Not all the way, we just need to head further up north, please." The voice said. I furrowed my brows when a hand slowly pulled back the make shift curtain. A man sitting there, another man in his arms and a bloody wound on his head.
"Is he infected?"
"No, no it's a bad cut. He and I are clean." The man said. I glanced back at my boyfriend who walked closer as well.
"What're your names?"
"I'm Bokuto... This is Akaashi."
"Hm."
"Please. We won't take any of your supplies, but we have to get to our home which is a few miles up north. Our family is there."
"Family?"
"Yes. We have kids, we couldn't bring them with us. So they are safe at home.. but we need to get back to them." Bokuto said with pleading eyes. Tsukishima grabbed my arm and pulled me aside, whispering so the two others wouldn't be able to hear.
"I don't know about this Kuroo."
"I'm not either. But I mean.. They have kids."
"So?"
"So those kids need them to survive." I said, Tsukishima sighing and rolling his eyes. He walked past me and over to the two.
"Give me any weapons either of you have. You'll get them back when we get there." My boyfriend demanded. Bokuto looked anxious, but handed Tsukishima two small handguns and two hunting knives.
"There, that's what we brought.."
"Fine, alright let's get out of here." Tsukishima said. Bokuto put Akaashi's arm around his shoulders, slowly standing up. Tsukishima led the way, keeping an eye out while I took Akaashi's other arm and put it around my shoulders as well.
While we walked back to the car, I glanced at Akaashi's wound. It didn't look like a bit. Or a claw mark. It looked like just a really bad cut. I didn't care, as long as he wouldn't turn on us. Once we reached the car, the two others climbed into the back seats.
Bokuto sat furthest from the door, letting Akaashi lay own with his head rested in Bokuto's lap. I started the car, continuing on our way when Tsukishima rummaged in his bag. I glanced over as he pulled out a shirt, twisting and handing it to Bokuto.
"Here, use this to clean him up."
"Thank you..."
"Yeah, sure." He said, turning back around. I smiled faintly, rolling my eyes as I kept driving. All of us were silent for a while, the only noise would be an occasional groan of discomfort or pain from Akaashi followed by shushes or reassuring words from Bokuto.
"How far up are you guys?" I asked, glancing in the rearview mirror at them.
"We walked by foot for a about a day and a night."
"Mm, then should be a few hours until we get there. Keep Akaashi hanging in there."
