Bokuto's POV
"How're you doing, Akaashi..." I mumbled quietly, gently running my fingers through his hair.
"Mm..."
"I know.. we'll be home soon." I said, moving as little as I could to get my jacket and bag off. I put my jacket over Akaashi so he could sleep and there was a few water bottles in the bag. They were all pretty much empty, but it might be enough to at least was off some of that blood and keep the cut as clean as we could keep it.
Akaashi closed his eyes, sleeping peacefully. I moved my arm over his side and ended up resting it on his stomach, making sure I could feel movement of breathing. Just to make sure he didn't slip away from me in his sleep.
I took a glance at the two strangers who's car we were in. It was a massive gamble to trust them. But, it was that or let Akaashi die... I turned my attention back to Akaashi, looking at his hand that was gently resting on my leg.
A tiny, but sad smile, rested on my face. I wish that Akaashi and I could have gotten married before this whole outbreak started. But, thanks to it all, we never got to have an official wedding or anything. We considered ourselves married practically, but it wasn't "official".
"Hey, Bokuto." I looked up, the guy driving blowing a puff of smoke from his lips before glancing at me in the rearview mirror.
"Where exactly are you two hiding out?" He asked, placing the smoke back between his lips.
"Its an old hotel."
"A hotel? Kinda big isn't it?"
"So?"
"I hope you guys really got that place secure if you're leaving kids alone there."
"We know what we're doing... but, thank you." I mumbled, looking back down when Akaashi shifted slightly.
"Right, I'm just sayin'. So, how many kids you two got?"
"3."
"How old?"
"One is 18. One is 15. The littlest one is 12."
"Wow, all adopted, I presume."
"Yeah, we found them on a supply run once. So Akaashi and I took them all in with us."
"Bold of you. More mouths to feed."
"We have food. It isn't much but it's enough for us." I said, the man nodding as he kept driving. I turned my head to look out the window before asking curiously.
"Where are you two headed?"
"We don't know yet. But the place we were occupying is running dry on supplies. So we decided to try our luck up north."
"I see. There's a settlement far up north."
"There is?"
"Mhm. Akaashi and I were headed that way. But with our own time. We need to take it slow for the kids, and with this head injury."
"Where is it?"
"You guys got a map?" I asked, the blonde one handing me back a map already marked up. He handed me a pen as well. I trailed the roads on the map with the tip of my finger before circling the spot where that settlement should be. I handed the things back to the blonde as he looked at it.
"That's pretty far out."
"Yeah, but you two got a car. Shouldn't take you too long to get there. But, who knows. There's a lotta groups that are making blockades on roads to catch passerby's. By foot, could take a bit longer."
