Yamaguchi's POV
"Here Suga."
"Thanks. You've been an incredible help today. Oh, the group A patrol just returned. They've brought back some more people with them, some kids too. Can you go take a look at them please?"
"Kids? Of course I will!" I said, rushing off quickly. I walked into a room and found who it must be. And Tsukki was here.
"Hi Tsukki. Are you okay? Why're you here??" I asked a bit worried. He just shook his head and looked over at the others.
"I'm alright. I'm here because I know them."
"You do?"
"We ran into them before we found you." He explained. I nodded, taking a look at the two men.
"Hi. I'm Bokuto. This is Akaashi. These are our.. lovely children- hey don't touch that!" Bokuto said, the youngest looking kid trying to poke everything she could find. I laughed faintly, Akaashi grabbing the little girl's hand and holding her close to him.
"Well, it's nice to meet you all." I said with a small giggle. Akaashi apologized for his kids' behavior, but the other two seemed pretty behaved. Tsukki stayed while I examined each member of the family. They should all be clean in terms of infected since I guess they check them before they even let them into the settlement. Which of course is a good idea.
Akaashi had a bad injury on his head. It looked old and it looks like they tried to clean it the best they could, but it was getting infected. I took some supplies and cleaned the injury and placed a covering over it.
Bokuto seemed okay, just a lot of scrapes and cuts from probably the journey here. All the kids seemed fine, same as Bokuto. Once they were all cleaned up, Daichi came over and said he would take It from here. He wished me and Tsukki a goodnight and said we could head home.
Tsukki and I headed back home after stopping in the dining building, thingy... it was really just kind of like a bar and was clearly a previous restaurant, for our dinner before returning to the apartment room. We ate quietly together before getting ready for bed.
We laid together again as we have for the past week. I kinda enjoyed sleeping like this. Tsukki was warm and he was good to snuggle up next to thanks to his height. I wasn't exactly short, but he was very tall so it was nice and cozy.
"So Tsukki? What do you guys do?? I know you do patrols, but what exactly is it?"
"There's lookout points that are stationed in high up buildings that are still standing. We go to them and make sure everything Is clear basically. Just keeps it safer around here."
"That's, kinda scary."
"Not really."
"Heh... Guess I'm just a scaredy cat huh?"
"Well, this is all something to be scared of, Yamaguchi. So don't be worried if you feel scared."
"Then you just must be super brave!" I said with a giggle. Tsukki smiled slightly again as he looked down at me. His smile was really nice. It made me happy to see him smile. We all need a smile now and then.
"I don't think so."
"I do!"
"Heh.. So, do you do all day what you did for Bokuto and his family?"
"Uh huh. I was talking to Suga today. Did you know that they're looking for cures?"
"I've heard of that. I think it's bullshit."
"You do?"
"Yeah. But enlighten me. How are they doing that."
"Well, they've collected a few infected and keep them contained. Even though they're dead. And Suga said that they've been studying the blood of the zombies."
"They don't plan on injecting us with infected blood, do they?"
"No, no that'll just spread it. Suga said they're looking for someone, anyone, who's blood has antibodies or something to the blood."
"Do you think there's anyone out there like that? Immune?"
"Maybe. I mean, we're all genetically different. There has to be ONE person at least who's immune. And, if they find them. Then they can make a cure."
"I see. Is that why when they checked us, they took blood samples?"
"I guess so." I said with a shrug. Tsukki nodded and stayed still before quietly grabbing me and pulling me close. I gasped in surprise before giggling and wiggling enough so I could look up at him. Our faces were close, and I felt myself blush.
"Ah.. Let me get your glasses." I said with a tiny smile. Tsukki let go of me long enough so I could set his glasses aside for the night. After I set them aside, I rolled over and let Tsukki grab onto me again. I giggled again before just nuzzling my face to his chest and falling asleep.
Bokuto's POV
I smiled faintly, so happy to finally have made it. It would've taken us a lot longer, but we got lucky and found a car. The roads were shit, so we took long ways around to get as close as we could. But it was still faster than walking. But then the car broke down and we had to keep going by foot.
Akaashi was asleep in the bed he and I would share. Since we were a large family, Daichi said we could have two bed. Our kids would have to share, or sleep on the floor... But, honestly, I think our littlest one liked sleeping on the floor.
Our oldest daughter was asleep with her little brother next to her. She must be exhausted. We all are. But she's been through hell for her little siblings. Akaashi and I had to depart from the kids to get an extra few scrap parts for the car. And when we came back, we found our daughter fighting for her and her brother and sister's lives.
She had them hiding in the car while she fought off quite a few infected. I was so relieved to see that she was okay and didn't get any bites. Akaashi and I of course helped her kill the last few, and once they were all dead, she broke down and cried...
It was terrifying facing those things as an adult. I couldn't imagine having to do it all alone at 18 years old. But she did it. I couldn't be prouder of her for protecting her family. And now that we were here, hopefully, we all could be a little more at peace.
