Tsukishima's POV
I slowly opened my eyes, glancing around only to find Yamaguchi in my bed with me. Hmph... I guess that means he can walk again."Hey, wake up." I said, tapping his forehead.
"Morning Tsukki.."
"..Good morning. How is your ankle?"
"It feels better." He mumbled, grabbing onto me. I sighed and ruffled his hair.
"Good, than you can walk. We have at least one more day to go. And who knows what will happen after." I mumbled. Yamaguchi just nodded and stayed in his spot for a few more minutes. Once I finally got him off of me, we got Kuroo and Kenma and continued on our way.
By the time it was dark, we made it to a large wall. We managed to make it.
"Hey, who are all of you." Someone asked, pointing a gun at us.
"We've traveled for days to come here." Kuroo said, the man saying something and the gate to enter opening.
"Stay there." He said, 2 men and 2 women walking out.
"Set any weapons you have down and put your hands up slowly and turn around." One of the girls said. We all did as we were told. Each person went up to one of us and scanned us to make sure we were clean, no bites or signs of infection.
"They're clean."
"Alright, let them in." We all turned around, but were not given our guns back. We followed the four inside, looking around. Looks like they've turned what used to be a small town into their settlement. Homes were rebuilt and repaired with wood. There was only a little bit of electricity it looked like, but it was enough to power the lamps along the sidewalks.
We were brought into a nicer home, one that has been maintained well and looked normal. A man with brown hair walked over, looking at all of us while one of the women explained to him.
"We always are looking for more hands around here to help. And the more people, the better. I'm Daichi, I'm the leader of this settlement." Daichi said, extending his hand to each of us. Daichi told one of the women to lead us to where we could stay and dismissed the others. We all walked back out and followed the girl. She was pretty silent the whole time.
"You two. Here. You two, there." She said simply and just pointed at us, and then to a building. She left quietly, Kuroo and Kenma going where they were told. Yamaguchi and I went to where we were told as well. It seemed like we would be sharing a room. But that'd be tolerable. If it was only him. Back in other sectors, I was used to sharing with several guys in a cramped space. But this was like a tiny apartment.
"Tsukki?"
"Mm."
"You okay?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"I dunno. Just, checking." Yamaguchi said with a smile. I blinked a few times before nodding. Yamaguchi rested, his ankle still sore since he walked on it all day while I decided to clean this space that would be ours. About an hour in, there was a knock. Daichi opened the door with a smile.
"How are you two doing?"
"Fine."
"Good. Alright, I want to go over the rules of how things around here work. There aren't many, so try and follow them, okay?" Daichi said, asking to sit. We all sat down wherever we could find a place as Daichi spoke with us. The rules weren't so bad. Basic things. We weren't to steal, we had to work to keep our places here. We couldn't leave the settlement without notifying anyone, and we couldn't let anyone in.
"Alright, you two got it?"
"Yeah."
"Good. Now, both of you are going to be joining a patrol tomorrow." He said, Yamaguchi looking worried.
"He doesn't fight." I said, Daichi furrowing his brows.
"What?"
"He has medical knowledge. Not combat." I said simply, Daichi smiling.
"Really? That's great. Then you will join what few medics we have here. We always are in need of the help. What about you? You do know how to use a gun, right?"
"Yeah."
"Alright, then you will join a patrol. There are group patrols, paired patrols, and single patrols. We're starting you off in a group. Meet them tomorrow morning at sunrise by the gates, okay? And you, further west there is a building where our medics go. Please go there at sunrise as well." Daichi said as he got up. I nodded, him wishing us luck before leaving.
"You didn't have to do that for me Tsukki. I could've... gone on a patrol."
"Well, would you like me to go tell Daichi that?" I asked, Yamaguchi shaking his head quickly.
"No, no that's okay..!" He blurted out. I smiled ever so slightly before nodding.
"Good."
"You smiled!"
"What?"
"You smiled just then." Yamaguchi said with a giggle. I looked away from him and mumbled.
"...Go to sleep." I said, feeling my face begin to feel warmer. Yamaguchi laughed again before scooting back onto the bed we'd have to share. He must've been tired from the day since he fell asleep quickly. Both of us made it though. We'd have to work, but I don't mind it. This surely had to be better than when I was living with and just traveling with Kuroo...
Another upside, I suppose. I didn't have only Kuroo. I didn't know anyone here yet, and perhaps I won't make particular friends. But I didn't have to rely solely on Kuroo for any type of company or help. He doesn't need me anyway, he has Kenma. And with his personality, I'm sure he'll make friends.
"Mm... Tsukki. Come to bed." Yamaguchi whined when I had made noise messing with the curtain. I gave in, climbing into bed with him since I also had work to do in the morning. He turned to face me, snuggling up close. I sighed softly, letting him hold onto me in his sleep.
Hm... I don't need Kuroo either. Right now, I have Yamaguchi for company.
