Thank you for reading: I have a (kinda) greek god AU Kagehina story for anyone interested. <333
10 Years Later: Yamaguchi's POV
"Good work everyone. Another area is now safe. Tomorrow we'll handle that nesting site." Our patrol leader announced. I sighed tiredly and headed home for the evening. Ever since a vaccine was created, everyone over the age of basically 17 has been trained well how to fight and clear out infected now that no more could be created.
So now, it was all really was a daily routine to be blowing up and shooting hordes of infected in all areas. And each day we would have to travel further and further to find more to kill. It was pretty clear and clean around here, so much so that the gates were being expanded. But there were still thousands and thousands and thousands more to get rid of until we can try to get back to any sense of normal.
Who knows, I may not even be alive to experience it. Or if I am, I'll be old. I'm already 35, but I have gotten to witness a lot already. Buildings are being repaired to use, there's been a little more availability in electricity and technology now that people of those professions who were alive could go out safely and repair what was needed. More animals were being bred and prospering thanks to the extra space. And there were lots of kids and families safe inside the settlement. Including my own.
"Hi sweetheart." I said, picking my son up when I walked through the front door. He smiled at me and threw his little arms around my neck. I can't believe that I got him 6 years ago already. I feel like he was just a tiny baby in my arms yesterday.
"Hi daddy! Did you do a lotta work?"
"Yep. I sure did. How was your day?" I asked as my son said it was okay. I nodded, carrying him to the kitchen and setting him on the counter. He obviously couldn't cook, so the poor kid would need to deal with whatever he could find and carry to eat in the house until I would get home.
"How's daddy doing?" I asked, my son swinging his legs.
"He said he's okay."
"Yeah? Is he sleeping?"
"Uh huh." I nodded, continuing to cook. After the meal was done, I put some on a plate and set it on the table. I then picked up my son and sat him down to eat. Once I was sure he was eating fine, I gave him a cloth for a napkin before getting some of the food for myself.
I was still kind of unused to going out on patrols and clearings. I was still afraid a lot, but I was finally getting a little bit used to it. And I had to stay brave for my son. I was doing all of this for him and his dad. To make it safe. Maybe by the time my son is grown up and has a family of his own, he'll be able to live pretty normally. I tried to keep his life like a normal childhood.
When I wasn't too tired, I would take him to the area that was pretty much the equivalent of a playground for all the other children. It made me happy to see him get to play and meet the other children. I just wish I were here more often to take care of him and to let his friends come over. But our work was too important.
"Alright, done eating?" I asked, my son nodding. I smiled faintly, cleaning his hands and face off before sighing.
"Alright, go get ready for bed. I'll be in to tuck you in after I check on your dad." I said, my son hopping out of his chair and running up the stairs and off to his room. Once he was gone and I could hear some water running to know he was brushing his teeth, I cleaned up the dishes before putting a bit of the food into a bowl.
I took the bowl upstairs and into my and my husband's room. I closed the door behind me before wandering over to the bed. I set the bowl down on the table by the bed before tilting my head and peaking at my husband's face.
"Hey, you up?" I said gently, cupping his cheeks. He turned his head to me and nodded with a faint smile.
"Hungry?" I asked with a smile, earning a nod. I pulled myself away from him and grabbed some pillows and bunched and piled them up before helping my husband sit up. He let out a soft grunt as I smiled faintly and kissed his cheek.
"Sorry.." I mumbled, trying to not cause him any discomfort. I sat next to him and helped him eat. It made me sad he was unable to do things like this for himself. I didn't mind helping him though. But it must be hard. He lost any use of his limbs basically, and he couldn't very well talk anymore. Well, he can, but barely.
After the food was gone, I took the bowl away and quickly went to go tuck in our son. He fell asleep quickly after a bedtime story and a hug and kiss. I smiled gently and made sure he was all cozy before going back to my husband. He gave me a small smile as I kissed him and laid him back down. I climbed in the bed next to him, resting my head on his chest before taking his hand in mine.
He's said, or nodded, responded, to any type of stimulation when I'd touch or massage his arms, hands, or legs.. He can still feel them, just not move them.
"Ya.. ma." I turned my head, smiling faintly before scooting up a little to kiss him.
"Are you okay..?" I asked, getting a little nod. I continued holding his hand, giving it a little squeeze. He smiled at me. Even if his speech was damaged from his procedure, I could see in his eyes how much he loves me.
"I love you too, Tsukki."
