Daichi's POV
"Daichi, there you are." My husband said as he walked over, our baby daughter in his arms. Well, kind of baby. I consider her our baby.
"Sorry. I was checking in on the new guys." I said, taking our toddler from Suga's arms. She held onto my with one hand and sucked her thumb on the other.
"How do they look? Not dangerous, right?"
"No. They're just kids."
"Kids??! Daichi we can't just let them-"
"Suga, not literal kids. They all look to be in their mid 20's." I said with a small chuckle. Suga let out a relieved breath.
"Oh. Okay. 20's are still young though." Suga mumbled, making me chuckle. I bounced my baby daughter gently in my arms.
"Dada!" She said, removing her hand from her mouth to hang onto me with both hands. I kissed her cheek, Suga rolling his eyes and walking over to the where our jackets are.
"Okay I'm going out to go get our dinners. Don't drop her while I'm gone." He said with a small smile. I nodded, giving him a kiss and our daughter giggling at the sight. Suga laughed, kissing her little chubby cheeks.
"You behave for your daddy." He said before heading out. Dam, I love that man. He and I thankfully got to be married before the outbreak happened. We got married, probably a lot younger than we should have. But hey, it worked out well. People always told us it wouldn't last. That 18 was too young. And it probably was, but we didn't care.
"Dada."
"Hm? Do you want something babygirl?" I asked, my daughter sticking her tongue out at me. I laughed, carrying her up the stairs and to her room. Of course what we owned was limited, but there were old kid toys that Suga and I have collected and cleaned for her. And when she gets to old for them, we'll give them to other families here.
I set my daughter down, hunching over to hold one of her hands so she could walk. She could probably do it herself by now, but I liked holding her hand so I knew she wouldn't fall over. I knew the world was dangerous. More now than ever. So if anything happens to me, or to Suga, I want to savor ever single moment I can with her.
She led me over to where one of her toy dolls were. I watched her grab it before waving her arm around at me. I sat down on the ground, watching her stumbling into my lap and wave around the toy. While she was playing, I gently fixed her hair and braided it.
"Daichi??"
"Mm? We're up here Suga. Hey, your dad is home."
"Dad?"
"Yeah, your dad. C'mon, let's go." I said, scooping her up and carrying her downstairs. Suga set down a small bag with our rations for the evening in them. Even though I was the leader of this settlement, I never wanted to have more than our people. Especially not food. There were many here with families and they needed the food too.
"Hungry?" Suga asked with a smile. I nodded, him giving me the small sandwich he had gotten from the dining building and bar. He set his own food down before getting the small bottle of soft food that was made for the children.
"What is it this time?" I asked, picking up the small bottle.
"Apples." Suga said, giving me the spoon in the bag. I nodded as he set the bag aside and we all sat together. Suga unwrapped his sandwich and ate while I opened the small bottle of softened and mushed apples.
"Ew!" Our daughter said, turning her head. I sighed, Suga laughing slightly and finishing his bite of food.
"Here, let me. You eat."
Suga's POV
Daichi carefully gave me our daughter and her food. He was quick to eat while I put some of the food on the spoon. Honestly, the food for the kids wasn't THAT bad. It was just fruits and water cooked until soft and then mashed so they wouldn't choke.
"Come on baby."
"No..!"
"Alright. Hey, why don't you tell me your favorite story?" I asked with a smile, listening as my little girl retold me the entire tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Or at least the best she could. Daichi listened as well, smiling at her cute imitations of the baby, momma, and daddy bear.
"Can you show me Goldilocks' reaction when she ate daddy bears food?" I asked, holding out the spoon. She ate a spoonful and said something along the lines about it being too hot.
"Good! Can you show me Goldilocks' reaction when she ate momma bears food?" I asked and offered her another spoonful. She ate the food and said it was too cold. Finally, I asked her about baby bears food. And she was happy to tell me that it was jusssttt right!
Now that the food was just right, she had no issue eating the rest fo what was in the jar. With the food gone, I moved her into one arm and got up. I washed out the glass jar and spoon before placing it back into the bag.
"I'll take the bag back when I make my rounds in the morning." Daichi said with a yawn.
"Thank you, Daichi." I said with a smile, our little one yawning as well.
"Mm, I think it's time for bed. For all of us." I said, carrying her upstairs while Daichi followed. We all shared a room, at least for now. When our daughter gets old enough, she can have her own of course. But since she was only about 4, Daichi and I agreed we want to keep her close to us pretty much at all times.
Once we were all in bed, Daichi passed out pretty quick. I laughed faintly, kissing his forehead and snuggling our daughter close between us. She wasn't falling asleep, so I brushed my fingers through her hair.
"Want to hear a song, baby?"
"Uh huh."
"I remember tears streaming down your face when I said I'll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said don't leave me here alone
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonightJust close your eyes, the sun is going down
You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now
Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and soundDon't you dare look out your window, darling everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby even when the musics gone, goneJust close your eyes, the sun is going down
You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now
Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and soundJust close your eyes, you'll be alright
Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound"
